Posted by nokiamania On February - 19 - 2010

Intel and Nokia are possibly developing a new microprocessor for mobile devices.
Let us remind you that at concluded yesterday Mobile World Congress 2010, Intel and Nokia unveiled a new operating system MeeGo for smartphones, laptops, tablet PCs, netbooks and other gadgets. It is based on components of the Moblin platform and Maemo.

The representatives of Intel and Nokia have announced MeeGo mobile platform (15 February, Barcelona, Spain).
After the MeeGo announcement there are rumors that the collaboration between Intel and Nokia in the mobile sphere will not limit with only one operating system. According to unofficial data, the companies are working on a new “system on a chip” with the Penwell code name.
The basis for a new chip will serve the Atom architecture, but it will be applied in netbooks and communicators. Given this, we can assume that Penwell will support various means of wireless communication and will have little power.
Intel and Nokia did not give any comments.

Nokia to Release First Smartphone on Snapdragon Platform

Posted by nokiamania On February - 18 - 2010

Paul Jacobs, Qualcomm CEO, announced that Nokia plans to release its first smartphone based on the Snapdragon platform hardware.
Mr. Jacobs did not specify when the communicator will appear on the market and what specifications it would have, saying only that Symbian would play the role of the operating system on the device.

Taking into consideration the nature of Snapdragon, one can assume that the smartphone will be able to work with high-definition video and three-dimensional graphics. Probably, the device controller will have Wi-Fi. It is also possible that the device will have the Snapdragon platform of the next generation, which will include Scorpion processor with speed up to 1.5 GHz.
Let us remind you that for about one and a half years ago, relations between Nokia and Qualcomm were very strained. Companies accused each other of violating patents on technology used in mobile communication system, and sought a ban on the import and sale of certain products in the United States. However they settled a conflict and concluded a long-term license agreement relating to technologies and GSM, EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, HSDPA, WiMAX and LTE wireless standards.

Posted by nokiamania On February - 15 - 2010

Nokia Beta Labs has developed an application called Nokia Feel. It is only a beta version now. This application is compatible with smartphones based on the Symbian operating system, equipped with touch screen.

Its meaning is that the user can “tell” his mobile friend about his feelings and get appropriate advice. It looks as follows: on the screen is displayed a list of mental states, from which the user can select the most appropriate to his mood: happiness, loneliness, hunger, energy, boredom, creative impulse, and so on.

After the smartphone “learns” what its owner feels, it immediately gives advice. For example, a user in creative mood will be encouraged to write a story, draw a picture or make a contribution to the development of Wikipedia.
