Nokia Expects to Conquer U.S. Market with Symbian ^ 3 Smartphones

Posted by nokiamania On March - 29 - 2010

Nokia does not cease to draw up plans designed to conquer the American market of smartphones. And even at the moment it recognizes that its proposals are not good enough for American users, Nokia’s attempts to conquer do not stop.

On Wednesday, at CTIA Wireless Conference held in Las Vegas, David Rivas, the vice president of Nokia said that the release of  the smartphones running the new Symbian^ 3, will help the Finnish mobile manufacturer in the  process of conquesting  the U.S. market.

The increase of the brand in the U.S. market is particularly important now, because here there is high activity of the developers. “Currently, we focus on mobile development in the United States. In a market where there are developers our advanced devices should be”, – said Rivas.

Let us remind that Symbian^ 3 was officially presented mid-February this year. Among features of the new version is the opportunity of faster work, there is support for multi-touch, multi-desktop, graphic accelerators for 2D and 3D for games and applications and more. The first Nokia smartphones on Symbian^ 3 will be available in the third quarter of this year.

Nokia Fires 60 Employees

Posted by nokiamania On March - 26 - 2010

There are staff reductions in Nokia again. However, this time it is not as extensive as before.

According to the information of Talous Sanomat publication, the Finnish manufacturer intends to discharge 60 employees of Accessory Unit. 50 of them work in the Finnish division of the company, and 10 in the German one. In total, these units employ about 200 people, so that reductions will affect 30% of the staff.

It should be noted that last month information about plans to fire 268 staff members of the Finnish factory in Salo has been reported. And it is about 12% of all its employees.

But Nokia is one of the pillars of the mobile industry. And even if this giant has to optimize its production, how would small companies act. While, on the other hand, Nokia is losing its leadership position.

In the network rumors have appeared that Nokia is working on the innovation of E-series called Nokia E7-00, which will be based on the  Symbian3 operating system.

Continuing to talk about the exterior of the novelty let us note that its case will be made of anodized aluminum, in the front panel of which only one key will be present. There  is also information about the date of the release of Nokia smartphone in the market. It is said that Nokia E7-00 will appear in some markets in July 2010.

Nokia N8-00 12MP Based on Symbian ^ 3?

Posted by nokiamania On March - 25 - 2010

It has been long time since Nokia phones headed “The longest list of features”, but it seems that Nokia N8-00, photos of which “leaked” in the web, can fix the situation. Future flagship smartphone operates on the basis of Symbian ^ 3 platform and is equipped with 4-inch and 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics.

Nokia N8-00 offers  x HDMI-port,rare among smartphones, and a huge display with a WVGA-resolution. Xenon flash supports the powerful camera, which should improve the quality of images in low light conditions.

Other specs of Nokia N8-00 remain a mystery, though they say that the smartphone will support multi-touch video recording in 720p at 30 frames per second. There were also references to support video playback in DivX format.

Perhaps, when we have just seen for the first time a new “star”, and we always hope that the photo and the specs are real, and are not rendering the dreams of the  fans of the Finnish manufacturer.

Nokia N97 Mini Crash Test

Posted by nokiamania On March - 25 - 2010

The video of the rather curious test was posted in the Global Network. It depicted at first glance a rather harsh mockery to the phone Nokia N97 Mini – the device was strapped to the bumper of a car in the manner of a tin can. The car was moving at a speed of 70 km / h, and the phone hung on the asphalt. No chance, you will say? And you will be wrong.

The fact is that the tests were not conducted over the actual phone N97 but over the protective film Wrapsol Ultra, which was the case used on the device. The protective film has honorably took the test – except for the dust ,on the case and screen of the slider no traces were left, and the film itself was not affected greatly by proving that it is able to protect any device, even in such adverse conditions.

Posted by nokiamania On March - 23 - 2010

Business smartphone of the Finnish company Nokia may appear in new color option for those who prefer colorful schemes.

Nokia E72 is one of the most popular smartphones for business today. Unfortunately, until now options for color solutions of cases have been limited to only 3 choices: black, grey and brown. Those businessmen, who look for self-expression, would be glad to learn that soon Nokia E72 will be available in purple as well.

As it has recently been reported, the new version of Nokia E72 will not differ from the previous one in terms of technical capabilities. The only difference is that the color of the shell will acquire a soft purple hue, which will certainly interest beautiful business women who have long wanted to buy Nokia E72, but something stopped them all the time.

Nokia Calls to Protect Environment Using Cellphones

Posted by nokiamania On March - 23 - 2010

Nokia encourages to improve the environment through the use of mobile phones for Internet surfing.

The below video clip is a great sample. If you update the status on Facebook via your computer, the same amount of energy will be spent that is spent to replace 100 statuses with a mobile phone.

To make users more kind to the Earth, Nokia team will submit videos showing the simplicity of how to get “green” for the next few weeks. These videos will show us how the use of our mobile phones can help to protect the environment from the harmful effects of CO2.

The first story, as mentioned just above, is about the Internet surfing. With the help of a mobile phone in any place and at any time you can roam the expanses of the Internet, read e-mails and spend much less power than the implementation of the same actions on your PC. And if Nokia phone users now use the Internet on their devices, the impacts on CO2 emissions will be impressive.

It is known that the Finnish phone giant Nokia has suffered a complete failure in the American smartphone market. Sales of “smart phones” under this brand in the U.S. are simply of ridiculous quantity, especially compared with the rest of the world where Nokia is a leader. It is sufficient to say that overall sales of Nokia last year reached 329 million mobile devices while in U.S. the brand is not familiar for the common customers.

But Nokia is not going to change this situation and prepares a very unexpected way of dealing with this situation. According to the head of the Finnish company Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia in cooperation with Microsoft plans to release a smartphone based on Windows Phone 7  Series operating system. The exact date of this release is not known, however, it is mentioned that such a device can appear next year. In addition, the fruit of cooperation between the two IT corporations should be the porting of existing business applications from Microsoft into the Nokia smartphones.

So far available only in Europe, the application costs 60 euros. It includes maps of the Eastern and Northern Europe, as well as the traditional “places of interest”, the location of the cells commit speeding, warnings about speed limits and lots of configurable options (including multi-language support).

So far, nothing is known of going beyond the limits of Europe, but Sygic assures that gradually additional regions will be announced soon.
