Nokia traditionally used to equip its S40-based models with Opera Mini. However, apparently, this practice is coming to an end. Nokia Beta Labs has demonstrated Ovi Browser for S40 platforms, which has the same functionality as Opera Mini. Browser itself is still a beta-version and in-store applications of Ovi Store are not available. This program uses a special service for the opening page, compresses it and sends the compressed form on the phone.

In fact Ovi Browser is very similar to Opera Mini 4.2, although the Nokia Beta Labs does not report on the use of Opera code in its product. At the moment this browser denies some services and features, however, is not the final version, and therefore arguing that it will receive, and what will not is too early. So far, the browser can download the compressed pages, URL, and auto filling, supports the integration of search engines (Yahoo!, Google, Bing), and has a bookmark. The test version is available on the site browser.ovi.com for phones from the list of compatible devices.

The Italian branch Nokia online store is now accepting pre-orders of the flagship smartphone Nokia N8. It is curious that the device is priced at EUR469, whereas previously as a recommended value of Nokia some were naming EUR370. The Italian site claims that the device will be available in September.

Recall, Nokia N8 has a capacitive 3,5 “AMOLED-display with a resolution 640 X 360 pixels and features multi-touch, a processor with a frequency of 680 MHz, a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and 20 X digital zoom.

The smartphone also comes with 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, 16 GB flash drive, MicroSD slot that supports memory cards with up to 32 GB, 3.5-mm audio jack, HDMI port, FM-tuner, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth , GPS, accelerometer, light sensor and proximity.

Nokia holds special hopes with N8 and expects that it will strengthen the position of the corporation on the smartphone market.

Orange UK has plans to become one of the operators to offer Nokia E5. This is going to be the second popular device offered by the company as earlier it was offering Nokia C6.

But there are lots of differences between the device and let’s say that Nokia E5 is closer to Nokia E71/72 in exception of having a touchscreen. It packs a 2.4 inch QVGA display,  5 megapixel camera with a LED Flash support, QWERTY keyboard. As for the connectivity part the device sports GPS, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Ovi Maps with free navigation.

The processor of the device has a frequency of 600MHz, while the memory stops at 250MB. The dimensions of the device are 115 X 58.9 X 12.8 mm and the weight of the device is 126 g.

The device has a talk time of 8.5 hours and 29.3 of standby timing.

Finnish manufacturer has not forgotten, as it might seem, about the draft Design by Community, under which Nokia fans expressed their vision of an ideal smartphone to be manufactured by the company. More than two months, designers corporation created sketches of the device and now they offer internet users to choose the one they like the best.

Recall, according to the results of the May vote, the ideal smartphone Nokia should have a 4 “capacitive screen,an aluminum case with a width of 10 mm, an 8 megapixel camera with four-time optical zoom, support for multiple operating systems, USB 3.0 and HDMI ports, surround-sound system e.g. Dolby Surround, a temperature sensor and etc.

After the vote, Nokia promises to provide a 3D-model of smartphone. What fate awaits this concept is not known yet.

The Ovi online store of applications spotted a new smartphone of Finnish manufacturer – Nokia 5250. Apparently, the novelty is running Symbian S60, but not Symbian ^ 3, as we were hoping. The smartphone will certainly relate to the gadgets of the middle class and most likely will replace the popular model 5230.

We do not have accurate information about the technical specs of the Nokia 5250. But we can assume that the smartphone is equipped with a 3 ” touchscreen display, GPS, 3G and Bluetooth. The cost of the new items is also unknown. It is possible that the price of the device will be closer to the barrier of EUR100: earlier this year Nokia promised to provide a smartphone in this price category.

Nokia is planning to enlarge the list of items under OVi-brand. This time it’s not going to be something connected with Maps or Mail but rather a browser itself. This became known due to the download page leak in two different sites- Beta Labs website and Ovi website. Though none of them is active, but still it’s still assumed that they will “get turned on” soon.

However, Nokia does not comment on the development of Ovi Browser. It is possible that Ovi Browser is intended only for Symbian-smartphones, although most likely the Web browser can also run on Maemo and MeeGo platforms. The most optimistic analysts do not rule out that the Finnish company may try to go out and start a development of desktop browsers.

While walking down the Oxford Street in London, you’ll get a chance to witness a rather weird poster showing out two devices of Nokia brand. They are  Nokia 5230 and Nokia X6. No, there’s nothing weird about the device and the carrier in form of a popular 3.

The only unusual thing is that both of the devices are running Android operating system, which is so far has never been used as a basis for Nokia devices. And there are not even such plans to make any.

The reply from the company was something expected.  The Head of Mobile Solutions of Nokia Anssi Vanjoki that the idea of having Android is simply a rumor.

This means that the carrier should be at least more attentive while making the advertisement posters.

MeeGo operating system became the primary platform for the products from GENIVI Alliance, which creates information and entertainment systems for automobiles. Joint development of Intel and Nokia will be used in cars such as BMW, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and Hyundai.

” We selected MeeGo as the open source basis for our platform because it is technically innovative and can provide the cross architecture build support we require for out refernces. Working with MeeGo, we expect to establish a solution that effectively meges IVI needs with those of MeeGo target devices categories “, – said President of GENIVI Graham Smethurst.

The platform will be the basis for solving GENIVI Apollo, which will provide an opportunity to use navigation, play videos and music, connect wireless devices and surf the internet in the car.
