MeeGo 1.2 Update for Nokia N9 Available

by Argam - on Feb 29th 2012 - No Comments

Finally the only MeeGo based Nokia N9 will get a chance to receive an OS update. The new version of MeeGo known as PR 1.2 will add a list of enhancements to the handset. The update takes 284 MB of space, so be prepared for that. It’s an OTA update and you can always check its availability in the notification bar of your unit.

The main charm of the update is the fact it enables the video chat, cut and paste features on the N9. In addition, you will see a folder design and content shift, which will make the handset folders more similar to those on iOS handsets.

Overall the update brings in everything required to make the N9 use more updated. That’s why the lucky owners of this handset should not be worried about having a unique OS based device with no future. Still I should remind you there’s a chance Nokia N9 will turn into a double-OS device also featuring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

This is just another reason why customers might purchase a new unit of the N9.

Nokia Lumia 610 and 900 against HTC Titan, LG Optimus 7

by Argam - on Feb 29th 2012 - No Comments

There are a few Windows Phone handsets, which can make a tough competition to the high-end and mid-range smartphones running other platforms. Nokia has launched a couple of WP devices and has announced another two handsets that will raise Microsoft’s reputation in the market. Let’s put the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 aside and focus on the newly unveiled Lumia 610 with Tango on board and the international variant of the AT&T’s Lumia 900.

Guys from PocketNow were present at MWC 2012 and when Nokia announced the aforementioned smartphones, they got their hands on them and put the phones in a comparison video against the HTC Titan and then the LG Optimus 7. These handsets have been on the market for a long time now and notably both smartphones sport very good features, so do not think this is an unequal comparison.

Although it’s too early to make conclusions regarding Nokia’s novelties, both handsets showed off and Nokia fans have no reason to worry about. On the other hand, the Lumia 610 is a low-end smartphone and if it could make a competition to such giants as the HTC Titan and the LG Optimus 7 are, then it will definitely have a great future.

Nokia 808 PureView Introduced by Camera Gurus

by Argam - on Feb 29th 2012 - 2 Comments

Nokia is fairly the most talked brand nowadays, because only this company could silently work for 5 years and introduce a smartphone far more advanced than any digital camera. I am speaking about the Nokia 808 PureView, which was announced at MWC 2012 and which overshadowed all other handsets and presentations. Even HTC with its quad-core smartphone and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich are currently not so popular as Nokia is.

We have already introduced the phone in details and we know it’s the follow-up of the Nokia N8, but I think the latter will not gleam anymore as the 808 PureView is out of all topics and won’t have a competitor for rather long.

I am not kidding as a 41MP camera is not a joke. But the thing is not only in megapixels, as Nokia has not worked this long to introduce a lens with “many” pixels. There are three features making this smartphone better than any other digital camera – lossless zoom, low-light capabilities and near-DSLR quality.

Most likely, you burn with impatience to know more about this technology and this phone, so mash the play button and watch the video below introducing the main advantages of the device. You will also see how to take the best shots with it by the introduction of Nokia camera gurus.

Nokia Apps Coming to Lumia Handsets

by Argam - on Feb 29th 2012 - No Comments

Nokia Lumia devices will get a few more apps this year. The first app, which will be updated to fit into Lumia standards is Nokia Drive. This app will be updated to version 2.0, which will add a large list of enhancements and improvements to the existing application.

The first change will be related to internet usage. Those who are frequently using the device will be happy to learn that the application will no longer require constant internet usage while launching the software. Among other changes we have a service notifying the speed limitations for the specific regions and the possibility to use the app in the dashboard mode.

If you got excited about this newer version of Nokia Drive, then I would suggest that you have a look at the new video demonstrating the version 3.0 of the same Nokia Drive. I’m not sure about the release dates of the Lumia handsets, still it’s fun to learn about what to expect in future.

As for the total newcomers, we have Nokia Reading and Nokia Transport. The first application will give access to various news, audiobooks, online publications and will be capable of working with RSS reader.

Nokia Transport will keep you updated with the most current info about the status of the public transportation. At the moment only 46 cities are included in the list, but enthusiasts work on enriching the app with more cities in the near future.

Australian Tesltra to Launch Nokia Lumia 800 on March 13

by Argam - on Feb 28th 2012 - No Comments

The Nokia Lumia 800 is currently available in every corner of the globe — that was the initial goal of Microsoft and Nokia. It is even available in the US, though the phone is not launched there via a carrier, but Microsoft itself. However, Australia owns one of the largest markets, but we yet have no news if any of the carriers is offering it or not. At the moment, we are informed the Nokia Lumia 800 will be launched via Telstra on March 13.

The SIM free option will cost you $672, while there are other offers too. For example, you can choose $59 Freedom Connect Plan or $49 Freedom Connect Plan with a $10 MRO payment.

The phone will be launched in black and white — other colors lack. In this sense, it’s a bit disappointing as the white option was rumored to be available first in Australia and its presence is not a surprise. But I can’t understand why Nokia doesn’t bring cyan and magenta versions to the country. Although, who knows, our anger might be in vain and at launch time all four colors will be available.

The intro of the handsets was held by Mary McDowell. She announced the Nokia Asha 203, Asha 202 and Asha 302. The most outstanding model among the three handsets is the Asha 302 with its QWERTY keyboard. As for the Asha 203 and the Asha 202, these models are identical except for Asha 203′s possibility to sport dual-SIM cards.

The Nokia Asha 302 runs a 1GHz processor and works with 14.4 Mbps HSDPA networks. The handset comes with a large package of apps and features, including social networking sites as Facebook, Twitter and What’sApp. In addition, it uses Microsoft Exchange email, which is a novelty for a Nokia handset.

The Nokia Asha 302 will be available at the price of 95 EUR ($130).

The cheaper Asha 202 and Asha 203 models will come equipped with a smaller 2.4 inch touchsreen, a 2 megapixel rear camera, FM radio support and Nokia Browser. The connectivity of the models include Bluetooth. The handsets are capable of using microSD cards for up to 32 GB.

These models will be basically designed for gaming, as during 60 days of purchase you will be able to download around 40 games from Nokia Market for free, while their joint price reaches 75 EUR, which is approximately the price of the devices themselves, as they will be offered at the price of around 60 EUR ($80).

White Nokia Lumia 900 Available

by Argam - on Feb 28th 2012 - No Comments

Nokia launched the white version of the Lumia 900 at MWC 2012. As you already guessed from the absence of AT&T logo on the handset, this unit will turn into a global device.

The novelty comes with a 4.3-inch WVGA AMOLED ClearBlack display though with not that impressive 217ppi density, a 1.4GHz single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. As expected, in contrast to the White Lumia 800 this white model will use a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. And as always you will get an 8 megapixel rear camera with f2/2, LED flash and possibility of shooting 720p videos.

The battery of the handset is 1830mAh, which should be good enough to handle the single-core processor and the energy killing apps.

At the moment we are still waiting for March to get the original color option of the Lumia 900 in the US. This is why we have no idea about the launch timing of the white option in other countries.

Anyway let’s have a look at the video below to get acquainted with the White Lumia 900.
