While the US is dreaming of its first Nokia Windows Phone smartphone, the Lumia 900, Europe is enlarging the range of the Lumia 800, which has managed to become the most selling smartphone on the continent. The white version of the phone will be launched via Fnac.pt, a Portuguese retailer. Now you see what an advantage Europe has over the US in terms of the first Nokia Windows Phone?

The retailer requires €549 for the unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 and promises to let you pick it on February 23. The price is quite affordable considering the handset we are dealing with. I mean the Lumia 800 is packed with many attractive features, which allow it to compete in the tough smartphone market. Anyway, not everyone seems to realize the worth of this smartphone and call it a mid-range device.

Calling the Nokia Lumia 800 a mid-range smartphone can be somehow accepted only if you compare it with the Lumia 900. In the rest of cases the Lumia 800 is a high-competitive smartphone, which can can easily leave many high-end Android devices behind. Don’t argue with me on this and say it doesn’t feature a dual-core processor or higher screen resolution, because in that case I’ll have to remind you that Nokia is used to getting maximum results by minimal resources. Take the Nokia N8 and E7, which are packed with a 680MHz processor but perform very well not yielding many handsets.

CES 2012 revealed the unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 would be available in the States. At the event Nokia did basically two important things — the Lumia 900 was introduced with AT&T branding and the Lumia 800 was announced to arrive in the US. Unfortunately no pricing and launch date were announced. The only thing we knew concerned its availability, expected sometime in February. Up to this day the manufacturer is silent, but The Verge managed to grab some information — the unlocked version of the Nokia Lumia 800 will be available in the US on February 14 with a bunch of attractive accessories.

Before I pass on to the pricing of unlocked Lumia 800, you must know that purchasing this smartphone you will be given a Nokia Play 360 wireless speaker, a Purity HD Stereo Headset and an in-ear Bluetooth headset. This set will cost you $899. Expensive? Count the total cost of those accessories and you’ll see how cheap it is. On the other hand, the actual price of the handset will be something around $600-$700, which is common for unlocked devices in the US.

So there is no reason to complain, as paying $899 you will become an owner of a perfect set of handset and accessories. You can choose between the black, cyan and magenta versions of the Lumia 800. The white version will join the list later.

The launch of this version was expected in November last year, but back then UK operators decided to launch the black-only version. In December the Cyan version got a chance to hit the stores of mobile operators. So now let’s see what deals we have for the magenta Lumia 800.

The Magenta Lumia 800 is available from mobile.co.uk online retailer. The contract options of the handset include T-Mobile UK and Orange UK.

T-Mobile UK’s offer — Sign up for a 24-month monthly plan costing 25.54 GBP (around $40) and you’ll have the device for free. Other than that, you will get a whole package of free services, including 600 minutes, 500 text messages and unlimited data.

Orange’s offer — Go for a monthly plan that will cost you 31 GBP ($48) per month and again get the device for free. You will also have free 400 minutes, unlimited text messages and 750MB of data.

While everyone is discussing the success of Nokia and its first Windows Phone Mango-powered smartphone, the Lumia 800, I want to remind you of another high-end smartphone, which came to the fore like a flash. I mean the N9, which got launched at a chaotic time for Nokia, attracted everyone with its design, showed MeeGo is good too and disappeared. Well, I wouldn’t say “disappeared” is the best word describing the current state of the N9, because let’s admit unlike the N9 the rest of the Nokia devices have appeared in the shadow of the Nokia Lumia 800. But at the moment we must recall the Nokia N9 once again, as it is available in Italy and Germany at affordable prices.

Expansys Italy is offering the Nokia N9 16GB for 469 EUR. Some people can say this is a high price, and there won’t be many consumers ready to buy this handset at such a price. But considering MeeGo offers features and performance differing from other platforms, it becomes clear the Nokia N9 deserves it.

Moreover, the Nokia N9 is also available in Germany. Amazon Germany offers the N9 for around 493 EUR for 16GB or 553 EUR for 64GB.

Interestingly, when Nokia launched its current superstar the Nokia Lumia 800, it did not do it worldwide. Among the “not-included” countries was the US as well, which is one of the biggest markets. But Nokia is smart in this too. They clearly understand there is no possibility to stop the device from coming this or that way to the US, they just want to get preliminary reactions from an unofficial entry. According to the initial information, the Nokia Lumia 800 will be available statewide in Q1, 2012, but Americans do not need to import the device from abroad; they can as well order it on Amazon now. Moreover, they can acquire a Lumia 800 free of contract.

Amazon features now two Nokia Lumia 800 in unlocked condition; you just place your SIM card inside and it’s ready for operation. This will be interesting particularly for AT&T customers, because the phone is compatible with the carrier’s HSPA network. T-Mobile also can benefit from this opportunity, but they will have to be satisfied with EDGE speeds, since the device does not currently support T-Mobile’s 1700 MHZ frequency.

Nevertheless, there is one thing, which can stop potential buyers — the price, which is $649.99.

The Nokia N9 was originally released to be available only in Europe and Asia and though geeks in the US liked it very much the release of the MeeGo handset is still not expected. Instead the manufacturer was planning to have only Windows Phone devices for this country. This is true only about the US carriers, but not strangely though, the N9 got its way over to the other side of the Atlantic, as some of the retailer stores, including Amazon, do offer the device.

Interestingly, as a seller of the device we have “Nokia.” I cannot be sure about the reasons why Nokia decided to make the device available for the US, but one thing is clear, here the handset comes at a higher price tag than elsewhere. Amazon is asking $649.99 for the handset and additional $3.99 for a one day shipment. But if you are patient enough I believe you will get a chance to get the smartphone at a cheaper price in a few weeks.

Still it’s a pretty good period to purchase the Nokia N9, as it just received a big update, bringing NFC tag reading capability, color filters while making photos, improved memory capacity, stable multitasking, Swype technology, noise cancellation and so on.

China is now added to the countries waiting for the official introduction of the Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone. Actually there were rumors about this long before, for China remains a market in no way to be forgotten and that’s not only by Nokia. Things seem to be getting clearer particularly when an anonymous Nokia executive stated in a Chinese magazine Global Entrepreneur that it’s going to be most surely in or by April next year.

As to the speculations to why the company is going to wait that long, the answer is the peculiarities of the Chinese market and its laws related to mobile and internet fields. For those interested in this, we can remind that China operates an independent national firewall system, which blocks such sites as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. So Nokia has to carry out localization procedures before entering Chinese territory.

Moreover, as compared to other countries, it takes longer time to register a product in China, and requires a lot of paperwork to do. And that is irrespective of the company’s image and status, for example Apple. The word is also that the upcoming Tango update is greatly connected with the Chinese localization, as some of the censored modules will have to be replaced by locally allowed counterparts. What specification the smartphone will eventually get, remains a mystery at the moment.

Finally about the pricing: the retail price for the Lumia 800 in China will most probably be roughly within about $768 and $786.

Of course, I am not talking about Nokia’s popularity in the U.S., because U.S. carriers and consumers denied Nokia’s products with the release of Android. But other than the U.S. market, there are other large markets as well, and they have warmly welcomed both Nokia and its products. I’d even say Nokia’s god there.

However, let’s put aside all talks about Nokia, especially the Nokia N8. Don’t you think it’s proved its dignity long before? Needless to say, the Nokia N8 sports the most powerful camera in the world. I guess the main reason consumers denied it was the platform, Symbian^3. But luckily, these times are behind and Nokia has updated all its high-end smartphones to Symbian Anna. And don’t forget that Belle’s on its way, and the Nokia N8 will be one of the first ones to get it.

And now I want to ask you, “Do you love bronze?” Don’t get surprised at my question because besides the previously announced colors the Nokia 8 comes in (including the pink), this smartphone will be available in bronze as well! Great, isn’t it? This information comes from Nokia Hungary currently offering the phone for 370.49 EUROS.

Kik launched a new app for Symbian and Windows Phone devices at Nokia World 2011 event. The application is designed for cross-platform messaging. It comes in private beta version for Symbian devices and is now updated to work with the latest version of WP, that is Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. For WP Mango we have 2.0 version of the application.

This application has been already available for iOS, Android and Blackberry operating systems. So we can say at the moment Kik Messenger is also available for all major operating system based handsets.

The Symbian private beta version of the application allows to send and read notifications, to have a group chat with any Kik user (regardless of the OS used by the group member) and to share photos.

As for the Windows Phone 2.0 version of the app, we have fast app switching, list scrolling, address book contact matching and many other innovations.

The latest three devices of Nokia — the Nokia Asha 200, Asha 300 and 303 — are all running What’sApp application, while Kik Messenger is way faster and will most likely be used for Nokia’s upcoming high-end devices.

Together with the Nokia Asha 300 and the Nokia Asha 303, which are basically touchscreen devices, Nokia also announced the Nokia Asha 200 in its Asha lineup. The key feature of this novelty is its Dual-SIM support.

The phone features Nokia’s technology allowing to swap SIM cards without turning the handset off. In addition it allows different settings for the SIM cards. Other than that, you can also have different ringtones and profiles for each of the SIM-cards.

The Asha 200 comes with a full-QWERTY keyboard and has an integrated support for social networking sites. The handset is so light that you won’t need to make extra efforts to hold it.

In contrast to most cheap dual-SIM devices, the Nokia Asha 200 supports microSD cards for up to 32 GB. The battery of the handset provides up to 52 hours of talk time.

This is the cheapest device of the lineup being priced at 60 EUR (around $84), but as we see its features are not less impressive than those of the other devices included in the list. The phone will be available in the forth quarter of this year.

And lastly if we trust rumors, then Nokia will introduce the Nokia Asha 201 in 2012, which will come with a single SIM card support but will feature all the current specs of the Nokia Asha 200.
