Nokia C6-01 via Bell Today(0) Today Bell will launch the Nokia C6-01 we have been waiting for almost three weeks. And it was also known the phone would be available for $279.95 without any contract. Other deals of the Nokia C6-01 were unknown until now. The device will be yours for free if you sign a three-year contract with the carrier. This is a Canadian tradition, but probably it’s not the best offer, because when you get a phone with a contract, there are attractive data plans, and you can choose one for you. Anyway, if you buy the phone with a one-year contract, its price won’t be much different from the price of the unlocked version, $254.95. $229.95 is the price tag of the phone with two-year contract. The Nokia C6-01 is a worthy successor of the Nokia 5800, and it is not surprising that the handset comes at such price. The smartphone is equipped with many awesome features like a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with resolution of 640×360 pixels, 8MP camera that is the most powerful camera in Bell’s phone lines. The camera comes with dual-LED flash and an ability of recording HD videos at 720p. More, it comes with a new version of Symbian^3 and Ovi Maps with free worldwide navigation. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and a 2 GB microSD card pre-installed. Well, this mid-range smartphone may be welcomed by Canadian users, as I guess there are not so many fresh Nokia handsets in the market. Let’s hope Nokia’s product will become popular even though it’s a bit expensive. |

White Nokia E6 Images Leaked(0) Now we are going to introduce you more complete information about the Nokia E6-00 that was first leaked in a Nokia XML file, then some photos were found over the net, and finally last week we heard the Nokia E6 had passed FCC approval. At this time Nokioteca Forums got its hands on the E6 and took some shots. Here you can find not only close pictures but also a couple of software tour videos. This means we can confirm several details that have been emerged earlier. First of all, it refers to the Nokia E6’s 8MP camera that comes with dual-LED flash and is capable of recording videos at 720p. As you remember, the Nokia E7 and C6-01 also have such EDoF cameras. Plus, the phone runs Symbian^3 OS’s special version adapted for 4:3 aspect ratio screens. The white Nokia E6 that was tested has a front VGA camera for video calling and a 2.6-inch touchscreen. Because it’s a Symbian smartphone, there are many questions related with the software features, so the guys over the aforementioned forum took some Symbian^3 tour videos. Most likely you won’t be excited by the videos, since they are really blurry. But if you want to see the first videos of the Nokia E6, they are available above. The release date and the price are not known yet, and the only thing we know is that it will be available in white and classy black. |

3 Must-Have Games for Nokia N8(2) I have always enjoyed playing PC games and I never thought I would start playing mobile games one day. But not so long ago I saw Angry Birds, and it changed everything. Now I spend almost all free time I have on that game. Well, not only on that game, of course, because there are many other cool Nokia games, too. So I decided to make the list of 3 mobile games you just have to have on your smartphone, especially if it is a Nokia N8. 1. Angry BirdsThis game is thought to be a puzzle, but this genre is too narrow for Angry Birds, I think, so trying to put this little, but really funny and positive game into the frames of a single genre is almost a sin The best thing about Angry Birds is the fact that the game has an affordable price, and regular free updates can be found in the Internet. So if you don’t have it yet, don’t waste your time, go and get it right now! I’m sure it will give you many positive emotions. 2. Spider-Man: Total Mayhem HDI’ve been a Spider-Man fan for many, many years, so no wonder I like almost any game about my favorite childhood hero! But, of course, the presence of Spider-Man isn’t the only thing that makes this game so special. Add great graphics, many levels—and you’ll get a perfect game that will entertain you for many hours, one of the best Nokia N8 games, actually. 3. Fruit NinjaThis is a very simple, almost primitive game, the main goal of which is slicing the fruits by touching the touchscreen of your smartphone with your finger, but it really makes you stick to it and play, play, play. The sounds, the process of playing—everything about this game makes you addicted. But to understand what I mean you need to play it first. So don’t hesitate, try it! |

How to Update to Nokia Pure Font(0) Earlier we posted information about Nokia Pure—a set of new Nokia fonts. The typeface looks really cool and stylish; it got much attention, and I am sure many people now wish to have it installed on their Nokia smartphones. So here is an easy way to do it. First of all, download the needed files for your smartphone (for Symbian^3-based smartphones like Nokia E7, N8 or C7 you can use this source, and for the S60V3 and S60v5 smartphones (Nokia N97 mini, 5800, E72 and others) this one would do; here is one more source you might be interested in). Just remember that these are not the official implementations of Nokia Pure, so unexpected bugs can occur. Some people have already noticed that several symbols are not recognized with these fonts installed, and some applications don’t work properly as well. But there is no need to worry; if you install the fonts and understand you don’t like or you don’t want them, you can remove them easily. After downloading the files with the fonts, unzip them and put them into your smartphone’s memory card or mass memory (for Nokia E7). And here is a quick tutorial of what you should do next:
This way of installing the new Nokia Pure fonts is very easy and fast—it’s only a matter of several minutes. If there is something you didn’t understand, you can always ask us. Or have a look at this tutorial. And this video can also be useful for you: |

Sphyro 3D – A Cool Symbian Strategy Game(0) If you love strategy games, Sphyro 3D is just what you need to have on your Nokia smartphone! Sphyro 3D is a really cool Symbian strategy game, one of my most favorite games actually. In this game you must do your best to be the last one to place your marble on the game board. The 3D graphics aren’t very good, of course, but as soon as you start playing, you stop noticing it, being attracted with the game itself and the smart computer A.I. that sometimes makes completely unexpected moves and tactical choices. When the game starts, you see a board with 4×4 deepenings where your and computer’s marbles must be placed—forming a pyramid. As I said above, your goal is to place your marble on the top of the pyramid, and you need to find the right strategy to achieve it. Does it sound too easy? Oh, believe me, it’s not easy at all! The game has two difficulty levels, and if the basic level is quite easy (at this level the computer A.I. doesn’t plan its moves too far ahead, and you won’t need much effort to think of a good strategy), you’ll need much more work and thinking to win the game against the harder computer A.I. There is one more good thing about Sphyro 3D: you can play it against a human opponent who also has a Nokia smartphone with this game. It’s also possible to find an opponent in the Internet, you’ll just need an account, and it’s not really difficult to make one. Playing against human opponents, even in the Internet, is sometimes much more interesting and challenging than playing against your own phone. Sphyro 3D is really a very interesting game, and it’s a must for you if you like playing strategies and puzzles. |

Nokia E7 720p HD Video Sample(0) The Nokia E7 is the latest flagship, and it is even more anticipated than the Nokia N8. Actually these smartphones are almost the same handsets bringing many similar features, and the main difference is hidden in their cameras. As you know, the Nokia E7 sports an 8MP camera, while the N8 boasts a 12MP camera that doesn’t have any competitor in the market. The Nokia E7 was launched in February, though many European countries didn’t get it until the end of March. Now, when the phone hit all the major markets for which it has been designed, we can test it completely. And the first thing we did was testing its camera. The Nokia E7’s 8MP camera comes with resolution of 3264×2448 pixels, fixed focus and dual-LED flash. As you can see, the phone is armed with powerful “weapons,” and it is clear the video recorded by this camera will also be great. Watch the video below that was taken at 720p. The phone’s camera is also capable of recording 25fps videos and has video stabilization features. Besides the 8MP camera the Nokia E7 is equipped with a sliding QWERTY keyboard that is designed very well, but I guess after you watch the video nothing else can attract you in this phone–only its camera is enough. And though Nokia smartphones are criticized much, the N8 and E7 are awesome gadgets. |

Nokia Created New Font, Nokia Pure(0) Nokia has been using the special font called Nokia Sans for a long time, and now the company decided to replace it with a new one, Nokia Pure. It is assumed a lot of money has been spent to develop this new typeface. But what is interesting, Finlandia Vodka helped in the design process. So could we assume this campaign could make a huge buzz around the company that is only in favor of Nokia. Aapo Bovellan, Studio Nokia’s Director of Brand and Marketing, said, “Nokia Pure is a celebration of our Finnish design heritage. We wanted to give it a natural, flowing form, while creating something that is highly functional and neutral. Nokia Pure has a clarity of purpose and as little design as possible. It’s made to celebrate human creativity.” I have to say I’m a bit disappointed, as I have always been a big fan of Nokia, and now it looks like the Finnish company couldn’t make Symbian competitive enough. But probably you remember there was a time when Nokia was an absolute leader and Symbian had a great future. Here is another question–where is Nokia going to use these fonts? We think they wouldn’t be used in Windows Phone-based smartphones, as Microsoft has tight rules referring to the font library. So probably this font will be used in 150 million Symbian smartphones that will be launched over the next two years. But there will be many devices with low resolution screens, so the Nokia Pure won’t be displayed perfectly. |

Photos of Britain Taken with Nokia N8(0) If you’re fond of photography, perhaps you have heard about aerial photographer Jason Hawkes who has taken pictures around the whole world and has dozens of books published. Several days ago he organized helicopter flights over Britain to take some photos. But he didn’t take his professional camera with him for those flights. Instead he took a… Nokia N8 smartphone! “My usual camera bag is pretty huge, and really heavy. So for the past few weeks I’ve swapped it for a Nokia N8. Is it possible to shoot aerial views all over the UK on a cameraphone?” Hawkes wrote in his blog. Hawkes and his team had flights over London, Midlands, North England, East Anglia, Scotland and many other locations, and later the photographer wrote on his blog that “Results on the N8 were amazing.” Here are some of the photos taken by Jason Hawkes with the Nokia N8: It’s really hard to believe these pictures were taken with a 12MP smartphone camera! But looks like they don’t yield even to photos taken with a half-professional or even professional camera, if you’re skilled enough in photography, of course. It’s even possible to make panoramic shots with this smartphone, if you install the Panorama app, which is free and can be found on Ovi Store. There’s also an interesting video on Hawkes’ blog you might want to have a look at: I think the photos by Hawkes can inspire many of you to take your own pictures with your Nokia N8. If you do so, don’t hesitate to post them here! |

Nokia E7 Available in UK for Pre-orders(0) The Nokia E7 is the next flagship of the company after the Nokia N8. But this one is designed for businessmen and all its features come to prove it. Finally, the phone has become available for pre-orders in the UK. We have heard the Nokia E7 will be shipped to the UK in April, and now it looks to be true. The pre-orders are available directly from Nokia’s site. The unlocked version of this business smartphone comes with a price tag at 499 GBP (US$799). I guess now many users will begin to moan claiming there are many smartphones in the market with lower price and more powerful features. But don’t forget this is Europe, not the U.S., and here Android and iOS are not the “kings.” The Nokia E7 isn’t a newcomer to Europe, as it has been available in some countries since February. Now Nokia says the phone will be launched in the UK in no more than 14 days. The handset could be bought for £469 on Pay As You Go, or for free on contract, on plans starting at £35 per month. So there are many versions of data plans, and the customers couldn’t complain against prices of this Symbian-powered smartphone. At the close, the Nokia E7 sports a 4-inch touchscreen, 680MHz processor, 8MP camera with an ability of recording HD videos at 720p. The phone is also equipped with 16 GB storage, 256 MB RAM and 1 GB ROM, though the memory couldn’t be expanded as there is no microSD card slot support. Well, is it worth to get this business smartphone? Whatever they say, I think it’s an awesome smartphone! |

Nokia to Use Both Symbian And Windows Phone(0) In an open letter that was published a few days ago, Purnima Kochikar, head of developer relations at Nokia, assured the developers that Nokia intends to sell Smartphones running Symbian software even after the Finnish devices based on Windows Phone are released. “We will be selling (Symbian) devices long after Windows Phone devices from Nokia have already started to appear,” Purnima Kochikar said in the letter. As for the Nokia products that will operate on Microsoft OS, the first examples of them will appear only in 2012. Let me remind you that in February Nokia and Microsoft announced the signing of a cooperation agreement, according to which the Finnish company chooses Windows Phone as the main operating system for its smartphones, and some people were concerned that Nokia will stop producing Symbians. Unfortunately, Kochikar didn’t mention how long Nokia is going to continue producing Symbian-based devices, but analysts believe that the Finnish company will continue offering smartphones running Symbian during the next few years at least. Kochikar also said that Nokia’s new smartphones will have better hardware characteristics. In particular, they will receive a 1 GHz processor, which is already good news. I guess you already know that at the moment, even the flagship products of Nokia (such as the N8 and E7) operate with processors with a frequency of 680 MHz, while the competitor companies started using much more productive solutions more than a year ago. Kochikar also noted that the company has already adopted the line of Symbian-based products for 2011-2012. “Over the past weeks we have been evaluating our Symbian roadmap and now feel confident we will have a strong portfolio of new products during our transition period — i.e. 2011 and 2012,” Kochikar said. |
