Nokia’s Big Event During Mobile World Congress 2012

by Argam - on Aug 24th 2011 - No Comments

Mobile World Congress is definitely the major event in the mobile world. That’s why most of the manufacturers are getting prepared for the event a few months ahead. This is the main platform for introducing new devices and sharing with the upcoming plans. Thus no surprise that Nokia is getting prepared for the event starting now. Many things were changed in Nokia, so I guess the company has a lot to announce.

The next session of the event is going to take place on February 2012, in the same awesome Barcelona.

Mark Squires, Nokia communications director, mentioned in his tweet the following: “We’re going to Mobile World Congress Barca in a big way next year, Nokia to exhibit at AppPlanet & our CEO @selop will also keynote.”

Stephen Elop, Nokia CEO, is going to be the key player of the event who will talk about the novelties from a 2300 square meter stand. The information about the stand was also revealed from a tweet of Mark Squires.

Great to hear news about this exciting event, but remember that we need to wait for a few more months: Mobile World Congress 2012 will be held from February 27 to March 1 of 2012.

How to Turn Off Vibrating Screen on Nokia X7

by Argam - on Aug 24th 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia X7 is one of those devices that won geeks’ hearts with their design and features, but no matter how attractive it seems there are several things that make people mad. Of course, they can be solved easily, but users get tired trying to customize their handsets, so we decided to introduce one of the tricks that will help you turn the vibration off on the Nokia X7’s screen. I believe this vibrating screen was always getting on your nerves, too, so this post will be very useful for you. Thanks to NokNok.

The Nokia X7 sports a 4-inch AMOLED display that provides very enjoyable view of the phone’s video and picture content and is the main way to “communicate” with the phone. By default the phone is set up to feedback to each touch of you by a small vibration. And if you are here reading this post it means you want to change this function since you don’t like it either. Moreover, these vibrations waste energy and impact on the battery charge. So follow these instruction to turn the vibration off:

  • On the homescreen, tap on the profile icon, which is below the current date. In the pop-up menu select Edit active profile to proceed.
  • If your homescreen lacks the date and time widget, you can reach there by taping on Menu > Settings and then Profile. Then select your standard profile and choose Personalize. In the opened list scroll down and find Touch screen vibration point. Tapping on it you’ll see three levels of vibration and a option box to turn the vibration off.
  • By default the vibration is set on Level 2. So if you want to turn it off completely just check the option box Off, if you want to weaken the vibration, choose Level 1. Than tap OK and the job is done.

Remember, the changed profile settings work only for the current profile, so if you want to turn the vibration off for all profiles, do the same for all them.

Nokia’s 8 Perspectives on Design

by Argam - on Aug 24th 2011 - No Comments

Every time when geeks talk about phones’ design, it becomes a dispute, because people perceive the world differently. The same thing happens with mobile phones’ design as some people like pink phones, the others feel good holding huge ones, and the thirds prefer slim handsets. All these types of phones we can find among Nokia’s models, but designing a phone is not an easy thing, at least for Nokia — the company has several principles that must be followed while creating a phone. This is an important part of Nokia’s philosophy which keeps the company on the top of phone makers.

As you see the video introduced 8 Perspectives on Design that are quite attractive and respectable, because all we know Nokia’s smartphones are the greenest handsets in the world. Generally, Nokia dominates in The Most Environmentally Friendly Manufacturer list, and it is not accidental, because the materials used for creating Nokia’s devices are environment-friendly. This is why Nokia presents the most eco-friendly devices in the world.

You know, maybe it’ll seem people don’t look at these facts buying a phone and pay more attention to the main features like screen size, processor or OS, but be sure Nokia will continue its “pure” activity. I think such things are hidden from simple users, but they MUST KNOW not everything depends on OS and processor.

Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition Released

by Ani - on Aug 24th 2011 - No Comments

Nokia has launched many luxury phones recently. Not so long ago the Nokia Oro was officially introduced and then visited FCC. Then we heard about the upcoming Vertu phones that are most likely going to run Windows Phone 7. Now Nokia is releasing a new version of the Nokia C3-01, called the Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition.

This new C3-01 edition has an 18-carat gold plating and ceramic-feel keymat materials. A “matching theme” – whatever it means – is also coming with the smartphone.

Most of the specs of the Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition haven’t changed since the older version, only some of them were updated. Both versions work in the same 2G/3G networks, both are based on the Series 40 mobile platform, have the same dimensions (111 x 47.5 x 11 mm) and the same weight (100 g). Their displays are 2.4-inch (240 x 320 pixels) TFT resistive touchscreens showing 256K colors.

As for the cameras, they’re the same again – 5 MP (taking 2592х1944 pics and VGA videos at 15fps) with LED flash. And for performing all these functions the phones have standard Li-Ion 1050 mAh (BL-5CT) batteries.

Unlike the “ordinary” C3-01, the Gold Edition has a 1GHz processor (who knows why?), 140MB storage instead of 30MB. RAM and ROM amount is the same — 64MB and 128MB respectively.

The Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition will most likely be offered in several markets only (Middle East?), and its price will be rather low – only about 220 Euros (about $317). The previous posh Nokia phone cost much more, remember?

Nokia N8 Getting Camera Update

by Ani - on Aug 23rd 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia N8 owners are feeling really lucky lately. First, the smartphone received the famous Symbian Anna update that fixed many bugs, and then the next Symbian Belle update was leaked. And now we have good news again – the Nokia N8 is receiving a camera update!

The update includes some UI and video capturing improvements and faster access to camera controls. You will now be able to shoot smoother videos at 30fps. You can download the update from Betalabs and learn more about it from Nokia Conversations.

The Nokia N8 has a 3.5-inch (360 x 640 pixels) AMOLED capacitive touchscreen showing 16M colors, a 680 MHz ARM 11 processor and Broadcom BCM2727 GPU. It also has 16 GB storage and a microSD card slot, so its memory can be expanded up to 32GB. The smartphone also has 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and a standard Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery.

However, the Nokia N8 is most famous for its powerful 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Xenon flash. It can take huge 4000×3000 pics with great quality. And as for videos, it was able to record 720p videos at 25fps till now, and with the update it’ll start recording at 30fps.

Nokia 800 IS NOT Nokia SeaRay!!!

by Argam - on Aug 23rd 2011 - No Comments

Elbert Perez’s Occasional Gamer site is very popular nowadays because the author has collected some stats about the upcoming handsets. However, at this time we must look at the online list once more as we have been wrong earlier when we were thinking the Nokia 800 is the same Nokia SeaRay. The updated list clearly shows these are different handsets (or maybe the same smartphone is designed for different networks).

We knew Nokia is working on other WP-powered devices besides the SeaRay, but there was no information about them, so we tend to think there is only one handset being tested. Honestly, I think the Nokia 800 is not one from Windows Phone handsets, it’s more like one of those smartphones that must run Symbian Anna and sport a 1GHz processor.

Anyway, the updated list is clear, and if everything is correct (I mean Elbert Perez’s research), we’ll see a completely new Nokia smartphone soon. But if they are the same models produced for different networks, then Nokia wants to repeat the same practice as Motorola and HTC do for their Droid (Milestone) lines (like the HTC Arrive and the HTC 7 Pro, respectively).

Symbian Belle Coming Soon?

by Argam - on Aug 23rd 2011 - No Comments

Nokia introduced its first devices running the Anna version of Symbian OS not so long ago, and recently the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7 got the chance to receive the updates. Maybe this was the main preparation for presenting the new Belle update for Symbian OS. This guess is supported by the new countdown clock now visible on the Facebook page of Nokia. The clock has a note promising “something new on Symbian.”

The countdown is going to finish on August 24, which means that tomorrow we’ll witness the novelty from Nokia, most likely Symbian Belle. This version of Symbian is already available on the Nokia N8. We think that Nokia will either introduce Belle just as the update for Symbian, or they will introduce a new device running this update. Tomorrow we’ll see which path Nokia will take.

There’s another hint that makes us believe that it’s going to be Belle: there’s a link next to the countdown clock, which has a “belle” component in it.

Nokia X7 vs Nokia N8 in Video

by Argam - on Aug 22nd 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia X7 is one of the smartphones of the Finnish company launched in the U.S. We have said for many times that the main advantage of this phone is Symbian Anna that won the hearts of many geeks who earlier disliked all the Nokia smartphones as they were running on Symbian^3. Anyway, the Nokia X7 became very popular recently, and this video is quite expected.

Of course, the Nokia X7 can’t be compared with the Nokia N8 as the last one is the most popular handset of the manufacturer due to its 12MP camera that can do almost anything you want, i.e. shot any video and photo in any situation. Well, we know about the Nokia N8′s camera too much, and talk about it every day, and this overshadows other worthy handsets of Nokia, like the Nokia X7. This device is designed especially for gaming, but it isn’t similar to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play as we are dealing with a super smartphone with “universal” features.

The video shows the phone from different angles demonstrating the whole charm of the X7, and I have to thank Jade Bryan who provides many interesting videos lately.

Nokia E7 for $406 from Amazon

by Argam - on Aug 22nd 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia E7 is one of the best high-end devices based on Symbian OS. That’s why even despite of its high price the device has witnessed quite an impressive rate of sales. Amazon, which is one of the main retailers selling the device, is offering a price cut for its customers.

Now you can get the Nokia E7 for only $406 in contrast to the earlier $670. You’ll save $273! This offer is only applicable for the silver color option of the device. Well, I think the silver version of the Nokia E7 looks good, and paying this less for the slide-out Symbian is an awesome opportunity. So you better hurry up!

The Nokia E7 is equipped with a super large 4-inch display with ClearBlack functionality, which allows to view brighter and more enhanced colors. The Symbian^3 OS brings in fast web-browsing and great UI to work with the applications. In addition the device sports an 8MP camera with dual LED flash, easy email setup and GPS Navigation.

Photos by Nokia 700 Zeta Leaked in Flickr

by Ani - on Aug 21st 2011 - No Comments

Not much is known about the Nokia 700 yet. Less than a month ago we learned about four upcoming Nokia smartphones with Symbian Belle and 1GHz processors, and the Nokia 700, also known as the Nokia Zeta, was one of them. Then some specs and pics of the smartphone leaked.

Now we have news about this upcoming smartphone again! A couple of photos taken by the Nokia 700 have leaked in Flickr. Have a look at them:

And the second one:

There pics seem to have been taken in Padstow, England. Their size is 1024×768 pixels (pic 1, pic 2), but obviously it’s not their original size, since the Nokia 700 is rumored to come with a 5MP camera, and the photos taken by such a camera are usually larger… at least twice larger! So these pics were most likely resized and made smaller, perhaps to fit the restrictions of Flickr (original high-resolution photos can be downloaded only to a Pro account).

What else do we know about the specs of this Nokia 700 Zeta?

The smartphone will be equipped with a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 640×360 resolution. It also has NFC connectivity, Wi-Fi b/g/n and HSPA. The battery is rather weak – 1080mAh only, but there is a chance that Nokia will replace it with a more powerful one before announcing the smartphone officially.
