Nokia X7 vs Nokia N8 in Video

by Argam - on Aug 22nd 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia X7 is one of the smartphones of the Finnish company launched in the U.S. We have said for many times that the main advantage of this phone is Symbian Anna that won the hearts of many geeks who earlier disliked all the Nokia smartphones as they were running on Symbian^3. Anyway, the Nokia X7 became very popular recently, and this video is quite expected.

Of course, the Nokia X7 can’t be compared with the Nokia N8 as the last one is the most popular handset of the manufacturer due to its 12MP camera that can do almost anything you want, i.e. shot any video and photo in any situation. Well, we know about the Nokia N8′s camera too much, and talk about it every day, and this overshadows other worthy handsets of Nokia, like the Nokia X7. This device is designed especially for gaming, but it isn’t similar to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play as we are dealing with a super smartphone with “universal” features.

The video shows the phone from different angles demonstrating the whole charm of the X7, and I have to thank Jade Bryan who provides many interesting videos lately.

Win Pink Nokia N8 at Next Style Correspondent

by Argam - on Aug 18th 2011 - No Comments

I guess you are aware the New York Fashion Week is the world’s first organized fashion week with its roots going back to 1943. Though it had another goal during the first years (the event was designed to attract attention away from French fashion during World War II, when fashion industry insiders were unable to travel to Paris to see French fashion shows — WikiPedia), now it is another kind of presentation where all popular, glamorous and stunning news of the fashion world are gathered. The Pink Nokia N8 will be there, too.

Nokia+Elle is a part of the Next Style Correspondent contest where will be raffled the most PINK phone in the world with its 12MegaPINKsel camera. Generally, the pink Nokia N8 differs from the original N8 by several special apps, and it’s really a great idea to be there and win one. The competition is now completed, and if you wish to meet the finalists, visit Nokia’s Facebook page.

“Pinkomania” is spreading, and as a result we have many people possessed with pink devices. Now the current obsession for many women is the pink Nokia N8. It really has its own place in the pink world.

Symbian Belle for Nokia N8 Leaked

by Argam - on Aug 18th 2011 - No Comments

I think the Nokia N8 will remain the most popular smartphone of the company until Windows Phone-powered handsets are launched. The N8 sports many awesome features; the only thing that was criticized much was Symbian^3 OS, but as you are aware the phone will be updated to Symbian Anna before the end of this month, and then no one will be able to vilify it because this update makes the OS much, much cooler. Do you imagine what a beast the Nokia will turn into after Symbian Belle?

Now I have some gladsome news for you as Symbian Belle update files have leaked for the N8, and those are not just rumors, as we have the video demonstrating its abilities.

As you see the Belle update seems to be real, the instructions are simple, too, but it has some issues that will be fixed before its launch. Some users reported problems with the OVI Store, Skype, some widgets and so on. Regardless these problems, Symbian Belle will be rather competitive with iOS and Android. For example, it has a pull-down notification bar and minimalistic signage with a back button — looks great. Of course, we’ll get more information about the goodies coming with Belle, but it is Anna’s turn now, so do not hurry.

Symbian Anna for Nokia Flagships

by Argam - on Aug 12th 2011 - No Comments

Nokia is going to push out Symbian^3 updates with female names — Anna, Belle, etc. — you probably already know this. We also know the Anna update was rolled out for old Symbian handsets, and now it’s the turn of the company’s flagships — the Nokia N8, the E7, the C7 and the C6-01. All these handsets will be updated to Symbian Anna in a few weeks.

These four superphones are kings in their territory and can compete with most smartphones. Generally, I guess these will be the last handsets to get Anna, because Nokia will launch Symbian Bell-powered devices soon. We also know Anna was changed especially for the Nokia N8, so it will look a little bit different than in other three devices. So the official videos of each aforementioned smartphones running Anna will help to see what new goodies it brings to the phones.

The Nokia N8 is the most popular smartphone of the company due to its 12MP camera with Carl Zeis lens and Xenon flash, and I can’t think of any other handset currently in the market that is able to compete with this wonder in photo shooting aspect.

Watch this video demonstrating Symbian Anna running on Nokia N8:

The Nokia E7 is a high-class business smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. It differs from other Nokia smartphones with its elegance and severity. The phone is perfect for those who use Office apps, send and get many messages and emails, etc.

This second video is demonstrating Symbian Anna running on Nokia E7:

The Nokia C7 is designed especially for those who spend much time in social networking sites, so it is logical the phone comes with many popular social networking apps. Moreover, the Astound (aka C7) has a rich “brother,” the Nokia Oro. It is the same phone made of diamonds, gold and leather. So Symbian Anna will look quite attractive in this phone.

This video demonstrates Symbian Anna running on Nokia C7:

At least, the Nokia C6-01 is another device dedicated to social networking, though it is packed with weaker features and it is designed for larger masses.

Windows Phone Will Make iOS and Android Look Outdated!

by Argam - on Aug 11th 2011 - No Comments

First Nokia announced it pulls out all Symbian and S40 smartphones from the U.S., then made an official statement about not releasing the Nokia N9 in the U.S. With all their steps they want to remind us that their new strategy is based on Windows Phone. A couple of days ago Nokia president and head of North American operations Chris Weber said in an interview what the key points of WP OS are and how the company has planned to beat Android and iOS.

According to his words, Android and iOS are built around apps while Windows Phone is based around users’ contacts, which means these users can bypass many steps making it easier to manage the phone. Weber meant the new voice texting technology that was demonstrated lately. If other WP-powered handsets receive such functionality with the Mango update, Nokia’s smartphones running Microsoft’s platform will get it on the board initially.

This is one of the key points of Nokia’s upcoming Windows Phone smartphones, and as Weber said, Windows Phone 7 will make iOS and Android look outdated. The awaited devices will be launched in 2012 and probably Windows Phone OS will return the former glory to Nokia.

Below is a video showing some of the VentureBeat interview with Weber.

New Nokia WP Devices, Not Sea Ray?

by Argam - on Aug 10th 2011 - No Comments

The Sea Ray is not going to be the only Windows Phone 7 OS-based smartphone manufactured by Nokia to be released soon. It seems like Nokia is now working on other WP devices, too, — they were caught on a promotional video filmed for the internal needs of the company and were made public by one of Nokia’s employees.

We can’t be sure the video isn’t fake, of course, but even if it is, its quality is admirable… The video demonstrates a number of devices that have noticeable external differences from the Sea Ray, which was shown by Steven Elop, Nokia CEO.

The first device is like the WP7 smartphone, which was shown some time ago and which was later called to be a renderer, not related to the actual appearance of the upcoming WP smartphone by Nokia. The second model from the video differs both from the original design of WP7 devices and the Nokia Sea Ray.

The sender of the video, an anonymous employee of Microsoft, mentioned that he used Ovi Mail to send it. This statement seems to be some kind of Nokia promo!

Nokia X7 Video from T3

by Argam - on Aug 8th 2011 - No Comments

Let’s have a look at a new video of the Nokia X7, which is running the Symbian Anna operating system. This short video was shot by T3 portal and it’s surprisingly not accessible from their website.

The Nokia X7 and its fellow Nokia E6 come with Symbian Anna operating system. This is the updated version of Symbian^3, which is also known as PR2.0. At the moment, the owners of the Nokia X7 and the E6 are probably the first ones to officially assess the new version of the operating system. In the nearest future Nokia is planning to roll out the update to a list of smartphones based on Symbian^3.

The main emphasize of the Nokia X7 is the entertainment. It supports high-quality videos and games, offers excellent music playback capabilities and a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen, which is ideal for watching movies, Internet surfing and working with text messaging. It also has an 8MP camera that allows you to shoot HD 720p videos.

World’s Biggest Stop-Motion Animation Set Shot by Nokia N8

by Argam - on Aug 4th 2011 - No Comments

Though the Nokia N8 was launched by the end of 2010, it still remains the handset with the most powerful camera. We have talked about cameras‘ megapixels and other features for many times, we also discussed the cases when directors recorded movies with the Nokia N8, and it was perfect.

Now I am going to introduce you something different — a group of enthusiasts decided to record the world’s largest stop-motion animation set spreading on over 11,000 square feet.

The movie is called Gulp and it was shot by three N8s. Though it lasts only about two minutes, people worked 16 days on it. This is a story about a fisherman who goes out for fishing… but after some success he falls in a trouble. It’s an interesting and amazing story, and I think you just have to watch it.

We’ll also introduce you the second video which shows how this film was shot and how the professionals worked on it. Enjoy!

Gulp

…and the second video:

P.S. The phones were used only to capture the stills, then numerous images were stitched together giving the illusion of motion in a 25fps video.

Asphalt 6 HD on Symbian^3 and Android

by Ani - on Aug 3rd 2011 - No Comments

What is the first thing most of us do after buying a new smartphone? Right, we try playing games!

A friend of mine bought a new Nokia N8 several days ago, and, as a big fan of racing games, he started to play Asphalt 6 HD almost immediately. He also tried to compare the game graphics of his Symbian^3-based N8 and my Android-based smartphone (I had to download and install it even though I don’t like racing games…).

The results were very… interesting, if I can say so. We didn’t make our own video since we found a similar one in Youtube. Here it is, have a look:

The video is only 480p, but despite that it’s clear that the graphics quality of the N8 is much worse, and the Symbian^3-based smartphone really loses to its Android-based competitor… It also seems the game is a bit slower on the Nokia smartphone.

We had the same result – the game looked much better on my old Android smartphone than on my friend’s new N8. But I guess, it’s not the fault of the phone, anyway, most likely the developers didn’t optimize the game when transferring it from Android to Symbian^3.

So I hope a new version of Asphalt 6 HD will be released by the developers, and this new version will be adequately optimized for Nokia’s Symbian^3-based smartphones. I guess all Nokia fans will be very glad to meet it.

Nokia 500 Runs Symbian Anna and Has 1GHz Processor

by Argam - on Aug 2nd 2011 - No Comments

Before Nokia will completely switch to Windows Phone, it continues to produce Symbian-powered smartphones. Yesterday the company officially announced the Nokia 500 that was rumored back in June. Now we know this budget handset will be available later in Q3, and it can be a good choice for those who can’t afford expensive phones.

The Nokia 500 comes with a standard sport design and measures 111.3mm x 53.8mm x 14.1mm while weighing 93g. The phone will be available in two colors — black (in Q3) and white (in Q4), but the box will contain three back plates of other colors.

The smartphone is the first Nokia handset packed with a 1GHz processor. Moreover, it runs Symbian Anna and sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 5MP camera, 2GB of internal memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot and a standard 1100mAh battery providing up to 7 hours of talk time or 19 days of standby. Generally, this is a penta-band device supporting HSPA 3G 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz bands.

The Nokia 500 will cost 150 EUR ($216), so it can easily replace expensive smartphones for those who don’t want to waste much money on glamorous handsets.
