IDC decided to make a few approximate calculations based on the second quarter results of Nokia’s market share. They made their own investigation and tried to project Nokia’s market share in both cellphone and smartphone markets.

Now the share of the manufacturer in the cellphone market is only 25 percent, which means that in comparison with the previous year the number has dropped by 9 percent. And unfortunately the smartphone market had a 16 percent drop. And if we compare the data with the Q1 2010 we’ll see a 20 percent drop in total.

Western Europe has always been the territory to save the market situation of Nokia. But as we see even here the situation is quite worrying. Nokia once held the 40 percent of the smartphone market there, but now their share has dropped to 16 percent. IDC even thinks that in Q3 of this year Nokia can lose its leading position in the cellphone market to Samsung.

However, for the upcoming year there are many positive expectations from Nokia. IDC considers the release of Windows Phone-based devices to be a good chance of changing the situation.
