It is very interesting to follow marketing battles, which are taking place among the leading smartphone manufacturers. Now in every serious company there is a marketing department, sort of a propaganda ministry, responsible for the external image of the company, its products and brands. The department can operate on a random basis, but they usually have plans and strategies defined for some period in the future. In order to promote their brand, the marketing people do not only praise directly and indirectly their product, but also tend to blacken the name and image of their competitors.

Recently a single statement by Nokia Director of Portfolio, Product Marketing and Sales Niels Munksgaard about Nokia’s popularity raised great noise and anger from Apple and Android phone users. Here is what Niels Munksgaard in particular said, “What we see is that youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones. Everyone has the iPhone. Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security. So we do increasing see that the youth that wants to be on the cutting edge and try something new are turning to the Windows Phone platform.” This is Niels Munksgaard’s personal opinion, and it is both surprising and natural this statement had so much negative feedback on the web.
Personally, I agree with Niels not because he works in the marketing department of Nokia and by the way is a reserve Captain of Danish army, but because I think some points he said at least about iPhones and Android are true.
