Since the official announcement of the Nokia N9 it’s a hot topic. Thus it’s quite reasonable to mention the main aspects that distinguish the novelty from its older brother of the N series — the Nokia N8. In particular, you will find 11 differences between them.

1. Screen Size

The Nokia N8 has a capacitive 3.5 inch touchscreen, while the Nokia N9 is 0.4 inches longer (3.9-inches).

2. Screen Resolution

The screen resolution of the N8 is 360 x 640 pixels, while the Nokia N9 boasts 480 x 854 pixels.

3. Dimensions

The N9 is thinner than the N8. The dimensions of the phones look like this:

N8 – 113,5 (D) x 59.1 (W) x 12.9 (T) mm
N9 – 116,5 (D) x 61.2 (W) x 12.1 (T) mm

4. Sound

While both phones have 3.5mm headphone jacks, the Nokia N9 is the first smartphone in the world with support for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Headphone.

5. Camera

The Nokia N9 is equipped with an 8MP camera with optics Carl Zeiss, auto-focus and dual LED flash, but the elder brother has 12MP and xenon flash. Both can shoot video with a resolution of 720p HD,  the Nokia N9 shoots 30 frames per second, while the N8 shoots slightly less — 25. But with the release of OS  updates the N8 owners have the opportunity to take  30 frames per second.

6. CPU

The N8 runs a 680MHz ARM 11 processor, while the Nokia N9 has a CPU with 1 GHz (Cortex A8), so we can expect that the novelty will be faster than its predecessor.

7. Memory, Bluetooth

The Nokia N8 has 256 MB of RAM, while the Nokia N9 has 1GB memory, which allows multi-tasking, too. The N8 has Bluetooth 3.0, but the Nokia N9 is equipped with Bluetooth 2.1.

8. Operating system

The Nokia N8 works, as it turned out, with the operating system without a future — Symbian ^ 3. The Nokia N9 received MeeGo v1.2 Harmattan.

9. Swipe

The N8  has 3 custom desktops that allow you to use up to 18 possible widgets. The N9 interface uses ‘Swipe,’ which is much more convenient and comfortable.

10. NFC

The Nokia N9 as well as the Nokia C7 support the NFC technology, something that current N series flagships can not boast.

11. Buttons

The buttons on the N8  are placed in the lower left corner. The N9 has no buttons! This makes it the world’s first touchscreen smartphone without buttons.
