When yesterday we wrote that Nokia won’t launch the N9 in the U.S., I thought the main reason of it is the fact the U.S. smartphone market doesn’t accept any other mobile platform but Android and iOS (well, BlackBerry OS, too). But I can’t understand why the company decided not to ship its last flagship to the UK, which was always hospitable to the company’s products.

It seemed everything is ready for UK launch and Expansys began to receive pre-orders for the Nokia N9 ,but the things are more difficult than we thought. Anyway, maybe there are other hidden reasons we are unaware about. I can’t say which countries are in the eyeshot of the company, but if Nokia ships the phone only to several countries, I don’t imagine how they will return their former glory.

So, there is only one logical approach for me — Nokia doesn’t want to disappoint the UK and the U.S. smartphone users with an experimental OS, MeeGo, and as they decided to completely switch to Windows Phone and win users’ hearts with it, probably it is more expedient not to irritate geeks.

In the end, look how Nokia explains its decision:

As an organization, Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout and each country decides which products to introduce from those available. These decisions are based on a local assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s product portfolio and are intended to provide the best local portfolio for the UK market. Although we are delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received, here in the UK there are no plans to offer the Nokia N9 at present.
