Nokia Company has announced that it will not produce the 6216 model, equipped with NFC module. Announced in April 2009, the phone was supposed to be the first model with a Near Field Communication, supporting the SWP protocol. Such a solution would allow payment transactions with authorization by special SIM-cards, rather than through a separate module as the NFC in the 6212 Classic model.
Nokia explained its decision by the reluctance of the market to massively use a system of mobile payments. The model was supposed to appear in autumn 2009, but the small number of NFC terminals with SWP put the 6216 release in doubt. Meanwhile, a representative of Nokia, Mark Selby said that the company in no way loses interest in NFC and hopes to further develop this promising technology.
