Nokia 808 PureView

Every geek is looking forward to the Nokia 808 PureView as it’s the only smartphone with a 41MP camera lens. It’s more a digital shooter than a smartphone but it doesn’t mean the rest of the features it comes with are low-end. On the contrary, the phone is packed with awesome specs. But the Nokia 808 PureView is a Symbian-packed...

Though Nokia can face branding problems in the US, the first Windows Phone handset’s launch in the US can’t be canceled. Moreover, analysts’ predictions might prove to be untrue as we have already talked about why the US suddenly started loving Nokia. Everything will become clear in coming weeks. I am certain about it, because the...

Nokia Lumia 800 Visiting FCC

by Argam - on Dec 22nd 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia Lumia 800 finally got its chance to get to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is the first sign the device will hit the US market sometime soon. FCC teardown of the device didn’t add anything new about the smartphone, but still it’s great to know the internal features were fully discovered. The teardown included measuring of all the details.

At the moment we know the device is capable of working with AT&T’s 3G network. But we don’t have even the slightest hint AT&T will offer the device; we don’t have it in its “Coming Soon” list either. However, the Nokia Lumia 800 is not confirmed to support 1700 MHz AWS, thus we cannot assume it will join the Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile launch.

The device is available only in Singapore and selected European countries, though it was expected to be first launched in the US. The price of the device in the US is not announced, but supposedly it’ll be offered with a two year contract at a reasonable price.

Nokia Lumia 710 to be Launched via T-Mobile

by Argam - on Dec 8th 2011 - No Comments

Nokia has already launched its first smartphone running Microsoft’s already-seeming-very-promising platform. The Lumia 800 managed to become a top selling handset in many European countries and confidently moves on, while its junior brother announced at the same time with the Lumia 800 still hasn’t seen light. And though we heard it is coming, at the moment I have other pleasant news for you — the Nokia Lumia 710 has passed FCC gates with T-Mobile branding.

It’s not a secret Nokia is doing its best to enter the US market, but unlike other manufacturers, the Finnish company has planned everything in details. It didn’t hurry to conquer the US market even having a very good weapon in its hands. The US starts loving Nokia, and this is a result of a very well thought-out plan. Now that Nokia’s got back some of its lost popularity, the company will enter the US market too, perhaps with small steps but at least those steps lead towards the right direction.

The second smartphone of the manufacturer with Windows Phone Mango on board, the Nokia Lumia 710 was found on FCC with T-Mobile branding on the front. This is very gladsome news and I guess there are many Americans waiting for Nokia. Though we have no official information when the Lumia 710 will be available statewide, I guess Nokia won’t delay it as it’s the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.

RM-750 – Same Nokia 500 / Fate?

by Ani - on Aug 5th 2011 - No Comments

A mysterious Nokia phone called the RM-750 was noticed on FCC’s website recently. Most likely it’s the same Nokia 500 (also known as the Nokia Fate).

We already know that the Nokia 701 Helen is the same RM-774, the Nokia 700 Zeta is the same RM-670 and the Nokia 600 Cindy is the RM-701. Only the Nokia 500 Fate remained with its codename unknown. That’s why I tend to think RM-750 is the Nokia 500.

FCC’s website says the mysterious RM-750 will have Bluetooth, WLAN support, a built-in navigation system, a BL-4U 1000mAh battery, AC-8E Battery Charger and WH-102 headset.

We also know that the Nokia 500 has a 1GHz processor, a 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, Symbian Anna OS, a 3.2-inch toughscreen with a resolution of 360 × 640 pixels and 3G UMTS / HSDPA. Ah, and its browser version is 7.3. It’s also going to have 2GB of internal memory (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot). The phone will also support HSPA 3G 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz bands. And don’t forget about the cool and original design of the smartphone.

Not bad for an entry-level smartphone, hm? If it has really passed FCC, it means it’ll be released soon. And before that you can read more about it from my previous post where I tried to compare it with the HTC Wildfire S.

Nokia Oro Visits FCC

by Ani - on May 30th 2011 - No Comments

During one of his last interviews Nokia CEO Stephen Elop mentioned that one of the phones he’s using at the moment is the gorgeous Nokia Oro.

The Nokia Oro was introduced a few days ago; it will be first released in the Middle East and Russia, then it will appear in China and Europe. We didn’t think the luxury smartphone will ever be released in the U.S., but recently it visited FCC to get tested and approved to be used in the U.S.

This smartphone has standard U.S. GSM frequencies and 3G support on AT&T’s UMTS bands and T-Mobile’s 1700MHz. But will the Nokia Oro really appear on any of these networks? It’s too early to tell now. After all, T-Mobile, for example, already offers the Nokia C7, also known as the Astound. Maybe the carrier will offer the phone’s luxury version, too, or maybe not. We’ll see. From the “inside” the Nokia Oro is the same Nokia C7, featuring the same Symbian^3 Anna, 3.5-inch AMOLED display, 8MP camera, 680MHz processor and 8GB of internal memory. But the appearance of the smartphone is different – it’s made of gorgeous 18-carat gold, hand-wrapped leather and sapphire crystals. That’s why it will cost about 800 EUR ($1125).

Nokia N9 Teaser Video

by Argam - on May 17th 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia N9 was recently spotted at FCC. A teaser video demonstrating the smartphone has also appeared, and this makes us think that the device will finally be released soon. The release date cannot be guessed yet, but I think it will be around June.

The most interesting thing that different sources prescribe different feature packages to the device. There are various display options for the Nokia N9, ranging from the typical 3.8 up to 4.3. The processor options include Intel (which is more typical for Nokia) and Qualcomm. The largest choice is given to the camera — here we have a range starting with 5 megapixel and going up to 12 megapixel. And finally, there are disagreements about the operating system of the devices. The fact that Nokia started its cooperation with Microsoft makes us think the device will run WP7, but some people say that the device was ready before this cooperation, so it will be equipped with Symbian OS. But even Symbian might appear in two versions — Anna and MeeGo.

The video lasts only 52 seconds, but there’s a lot of info in it. I think that the most impressive part is the end of the video, which states  ”Our Next Sense: Nokia N Series.”

Nokia N9 Visiting FCC

by Argam - on May 11th 2011 - No Comments

We didn’t hear anything about the Nokia N9 for a while, and thus everybody thought that the device was forgotten. But now we managed to find out that the device went through FCC with the codename RM-680. At the first glance some can claim that this device is not the Nokia N9, but if we put the Nokia N9 and the RM-680 schemes next to each other, we’ll see that these two are identical.

The main specs that leaked from the FCC document are the connectivity details. The device is going to work with WCDMA and 3G networks. This is cool, since the device will probably appear both in T-Mobile and AT&T stores.

The Nokia N9 is announced to come up with WP7 OS, so the original N9-00 has to go through a list of major changes. First of all, the QWERTY slider form of the smartphone will change, and the device will become FVWGA.

The smartphone was first announced back in the February at the Mobile World Congress. The info about the device was not available then and it’s not revealed even now. Hope to get something fresh anyway!

Nokia E6 passed FCC approval

by Argam - on Mar 24th 2011 - No Comments

Recently FCC approved the Nokia RM-609 that is the same Nokia E6. Although we have seen its leaked pictures, but no official announcement has been done yet. Now when it received the FCC approval, we can say the phone is on the way, and we’ll see it soon.

According to the documents found on the FCC website, E6 will work in the U.S. tri-band UMTS/HSDPA networks (850/1700/1900MHz). Most likely, the novelty will appear in the networks of cellular operators like AT&T and T-Mobile USA.

Taking into account the pictures surfaced earlier it is a BlackBerrish phone with hardware QWERTY keyboard and a display with resolution of 480×640 pixels. The phone is designed for those users who like messaging and there are all needed features for this case. I mean an 8MP camera on the back of the phone with autofocus and dual-LED flash, and a secondary camera on front of the phone intended for video calling.

This Symbian^3 smartphone would become one of Nokia’s “guns” to conquer America. Though it is not a high-end smartphone that are very popular statewide, but be sure there are many users who want more comfortable handset for messaging.

One of the main surprises of this phone is its camera: honestly, I don’t remember any other device with such form factor to feature so powerful hardware. Anyway, it is only “plus” to the Nokia E6.

Nokia C7 Approved by FCC?

by L.K. - on Aug 8th 2010 - No Comments

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved a smartphone of Nokia brand which looks to be very similar to Nokia C7.

The appearance of the device almost identical to the gadget that appeared on the web spy photos tagged as Nokia C7. The only thing that is questionable – it is the connectors on the bottom of the phone. If you believe the scheme, their location is slightly different from what we saw in the photo.

At least we got a chance to learn about few specs of the approved device. From the FCC documentation we can say that the certified smartphone can work in GSM / EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and HSPA (850/AWS/1900/2100 MHz) networks. In addition, we’ve got info about the connectors in form of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
