iPhone outselling Nokia N8 by six to one in Europe

by L.K. - on Dec 1st 2010 - No Comments

Coming up with some sales statistics from Europe. The survey showed that iPhones selling at the rate of six to compared with the Nokia’s N8, this conclusion was made by Morgan Stanley analyst Patrick Standaert.

These statistcs are based on the checks with 150 phone stores among five European countries,  revealing that iPhones are sold six times better than Nokia N8 smartphones.

Good news for Nokia is that customers are said to be overall satisfied with their N8 handset.

Supposedly Nokia would be selling 2.5 million N8s in the fall and nine million units in the upcoming 2011, and these results would let Nokia stay on with the 35 percent total phone market share given the rest of its lineup. Recall that according to Gartner currently Nokia’s market share makes up about 36.6 percent.

With its 400,000 registered developers and daily three million app download results the company seems to be recovering from its problems.

It is not a secret that Nokia totally relies on its Nokia N8 front runner, both financially and strategically, so let’s wish it luck!

Nokia is losing its market share

by L.K. - on Nov 12th 2010 - No Comments

Gartner Analysts claim that the share of Nokia in the market of mobile phone sales in the third quarter is 28%, while a year earlier the figure was approx. 37%.

At the same time the number of handsets sold by Nokia has increased. In the third quarter of the year  about 117 million Nokia mobile phones  have been sold worldwide, which is for about 4 million units more than a year earlier.

Gartner believes that Nokia has sold mainly expensive phones, as cheap models were not on sale .

Nokia suffers from Chinese unbranded white-boxes

by Sona - on Nov 11th 2010 - 1 Comment

While Nokia is doing everything to settle the issues related to the recovering its market share, Chinese device makers benefit more than the company offering unbranded phones.

Unlike Nokia, Apple continues to supervise the market day by day involving more buyers to its stores, and the latest product it has offered is the iPhone 4. Though something more was expected from the device, this was a result of the fact the mobile market was hit by such devices as Samsung Galaxy S and HTC EVO at the same time.

According to the Gartner’s research director Carolina Milanesi’s forecastings Nokia’s Symbian OS will be in dominating positions in 2014, which is still has the biggest market share with its 37%. This is good enough for the manufacturer, but it seems the company is going to be alone with its Symbian OS devices, as lately Nokia announced they are going to take the whole control of Symbian foundation to their hands. This announcement was made after the event when Samsung and Sony Ericson officially rejected the Symbian and focused on Android.

While Apple and Android feel good with the sale rate they provide, Nokia and RIM have suffered enough from Chinese makers of cheap unbranded “white-box” handsets. This means that such companies are unwinding their affairs at the expense Nokia and blackberry devices.

The “white-box” manufacturers are small and short-lived companies launching devices based on chipsets from Taiwan’s MediaTek. They sell the handsets in such countries where mobile users have low incomes, so the unbranded cheap phones are very accessible for them.

According to Gartner, in the Q3 the “white-box” manufacturers’ market share raised to 33% from 16% being the result of fast-enlarging business. So the Nokia’s market share has dropped in the third quarter from 37% to 28%.

May be the mobile giant will be able to get back its positions next year releasing MeeGo based devices, which will exceed by its capabilities iPhone and Android phones.

Gartner: Symbian OS will be the most sold

by Sona - on Sep 13th 2010 - No Comments

Nokia’s new coming exec Stephen Elop’s task will be to monitor that the company’s Symbian OS won’t lose its market share, which has lead over the next four years. As Gartner has announced, Symbian will be on the first place in OS sale list in 2014.

According to Gartner’s forecasts, Symbian OS will share about 30.2% of the market while the Android’s segment will be 29.6% in 2014. It’s interesting that Windows Phone will share 3.9%, but there is some jealousy about this number considering the WP’s progress during the last years.

Nevertheless, to implement these forecasts there is a lot of work to be done and now we understand what has been the main goal of Elop’s movement from Microsoft to Nokia.

If we pay attention to iOS’s position on the market we’ll see that it may be on the peak with 17.1% market share during the next year. And the RIM’s position will decrease.

So it’s just a forecasting but it can become the main purpose of Elop’s activity.

Only 100 Thousand N900 Sold in Five Months?

by L.K. - on May 31st 2010 - No Comments

According to the Gartner- one of the major analyst firms, during the first five months of the sales, Nokia could sell only about 100 thousand N900 smartphones. According to the experts, the device failed to attract the attention of a wide range of customers and did not affect the positioning of the potential competitors.

The company Nokia itself declined to comment on the data announced by Gartner. The representative of the Finnish corporation only said that the company is quite satisfied with the sales of N900. “Its sales significantly exceeded our expectations” – was said at Nokia.

For comparison, 2, 5 months after the release of Nexus One, there were sold around 135 thousand copies of the smartphone from Google. The experts call this the result simply a disaster. During the same time Motorola has realized 1.05 million models of the smartphone Droid.
