The Nokia Lumia 610 is the cheapest Lumia series model designed for the markets where customers are not willing to pay much for a handset. One such market is India. Here the device will be sold at the price of Rs 11,000 without VAT (around $217), which makes the handset a pretty affordable choice. As for the UK, there the device will...

T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 Now Free with a Contract

by Argam - on Feb 2nd 2012 - No Comments

The second Nokia Windows Phone, the Lumia 710 is finally getting more affordable. Originally available from T-Mobile at $49.99 it is now available for free. It’s noteworthy that we have this free option right a day after the price was cut to $39.99.

To get your free unit go to the closest Microsoft Store location or order one via T-Mobile official website.

Just to remind, the manufacturer stated this device would fit into the mid-range series, while it ended up as a low-cost entry level WP smartphone.

Similarly, the price of the device is dropped in other markets as well (Russia, India and even Canada). In Russia the smartphone’s price is cut by 35%, which is an enormous cut for a brand new smartphone. Now the Russian customers can get the handset for only 9890 rubles ($325).

Some experts claim the price cut is conditioned with the WP smartphone’s low sales. Still another flagship of the same lineup will be soon released, thus the interest towards the lineup needs to be kept on the top level. But on the other hand, different reports claim the phone is sold very well, so I personally think such price discounts are a strategic move to promote the Lumia series. I believe the Lumia 710 was designed to help Nokia become more popular, and not ensure some benefit.

Nokia Lumia 710 Started Shipping

by Argam - on Dec 12th 2011 - No Comments

The Lumia 710 is Nokia’s second handset running Windows Phone and now it started shipping. This phone is packed with almost the same features as its elder brother, but it will be offered at a more affordable price meaning the phone is designed as a budget-handset.

When Nokia announced its first Windows Phone smartphones, the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710, there were few people believing the company would succeed launching them. Especially, Asian countries were commenting loudly as they were sure Nokia would bring its devices to Asia, because the US and Europe denied them. Of course, these are the words of simple users, who don’t understand anything about mobile world and they want whatever strikes the eye. I mean a few months ago Android was a leading platform, and many users used to think it’s the best and Nokia can’t compete with it. However, the last cases showed Android isn’t that powerful and Nokia isn’t that weak.

We have already introduced to you the Nokia Lumia 710 Preview showing all its advantages and disadvantages, but we think its key feature is its stylish design. All in all, Nokia’s both handsets look very nice and differ from other Nokia phones and other manufacturers’ handsets. That can be very important when entering the US smartphone market, as the leading companies of this market often produce smartphones not differing from each other. In general, they look quite similar, which becomes a reason for patent suitcases.

Unlike them, the Lumia 710 comes with a stylish design and is packed with a myriad of attractive specs. At first it refers to Windows Phone Mango, which has managed to win the hearts of many smartphone users. It includes a 1.4GHz processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, a 5MP rear camera and 8GB of internal memory. As you see it is a little bit weaker than the Lumia 800, but it’s a good option for users wishing to enjoy Windows Phone Mango, but unable to afford buying the Lumia 800. These users can now pick up this handset at an affordable price. The Lumia 710 is being shipped to Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, India and Russia at a price tag of 270 Euros excluding taxes and subsidies.

Dual-SIM Nokia C2-06 Soon in India

by Argam - on Apr 20th 2011 - No Comments

The Indian market has long been one of the best markets for the leading manufacturers including Nokia. Here the carrier is planning to introduce another dual SIM card smartphone. The device is not going to be a high-end one, as it was expected to be. Instead of it, the device will be a simple S40 and will most likely launch with Touch and Type branding.

The device will be called C2-06. It will be equipped with a resistive touchscreen display; we don’t know about its resolution yet, but we guess it won’t be that high. It’s interesting that when the device is closed it looks like some of the models of the C5 series (like the C5-03 or the C5-04). But when you open the device you get disappointed. The gadget is equipped with a typical alphanumeric keyboard instead of the desired QWERTY. Well, anyway, you shouldn’t expect too much from a middle device.

One of the features of the device is the 2 megapixel camera, which actually gives a chance of taking not that bad pics.

Surely, the main point that will be played on is the idea of having two SIM cards. So to make the device even more attractive, the manufacturer will most likely release it with a low, affordable price.

The connectivity of the device is poor. The gadget doesn’t support 3G and, unfortunately, not even Wi-Fi. The leaked pics of the device are made somewhere in India, do we have no idea about the carrier of the gadget and the release location.

Nokia’s Push Email Service Banned in India

by Argam - on Apr 17th 2011 - No Comments

First Blackberry had problems with the Indian government, and now Nokia seems to be going to join the party. This time the issue is caused by the feature of the Nokia devices known as “push email service.”

“In view of the Intelligence Bureau’s report, Department of Telecommunications is requested to advice the Telecom Service Providers not to launch Nokia’s proposed pushmail/powermail service without putting in place monitoring facilities to the satisfaction of the LEAs,” was stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs of India in a message directed to the Department of Telecom.

The main thing is that more than the half of Nokia’s E-series devices have already been sold with the service on, this means that the users might be required to return their devices and get them back only after the service is officially turned off. There are even rumors that Nokia started to sell the current devices without this feature, unless the situation is solved.

The only way to avoid this situation is to push Nokia to satisfy the requirements of the Indian government. Blackberry, which had the same problem, is still struggling against the claim. They do not consider the idea of giving more access to the message exchange to the government to be a proper one. And it’s quite reasonable. This is just a mean of violating the rights of the customers.

So far Nokia didn’t give an official response to the situation. But it’s obvious that the manufacturer cannot avoid having one. Let’s just wait for more news.

Nokia Facing a Strike in India

by L.K. - on Jul 15th 2010 - No Comments

The Nokia plant, located in the economic zone of Chennai (India) is shaken by a strike – the workers are demanding wage increases and the restoration of the previously dismissed employees. By such drastic measures the company’s employees were forced to move after unsuccessful negotiations with the leadership of the factory this Monday.

According to representatives of Nokia, wages of employees of the plant are large and exceed the average for the region in the IT-industry. Therefore, to increase their company is not going to happen. The second request relating to the restoration of the workplace laid-off employees, too, is unlikely to be satisfied – Nokia representative says that the contracts with these people were ripped off for “serious misconduct” and to continue working with them is not inappropriate. A total of 60 employees were dismissed at incident in January of this year.

Now the Indian factory of Nokia employs about 8,000 people. For all 4 years of its activity the plant produced more than 350 copies of mobile phones.
