Firefox 4 Final Version for Android and Maemo Released

by Ani - on Mar 31st 2011 - No Comments

Mozilla’s development team announced the final release of Firefox 4 web browser’s portable versions that operate under Android and Maemo OS.

The mobile version of the browser is built on the same platform as PC’s Firefox 4. The distinguishing features of the new version are the JavaScript-engine JägerMonkey, HTML5 support, geolocation and hardware acceleration means and extensions support and the Firefox Sync module that allows synchronizing the open tabs, passwords, browsing history and other information with Firefox browsers on different devices.

The built-in password managers, download managers, the system of storing pages in PDF format and the system that helps you easily share any content on your social sites also deserve special attention. We should also mention the user interface, which is optimized for touchscreen control and supports the smooth zooming for pinch-to-zoom pages.

The developers claim that Firefox 4 is three times faster than the standard Android browser.

The Android-version of the browser can be downloaded on Android Market, and the Maemo-version can be found on Mozilla’s website. But it’s recommended to review the list of the supported devices before installing the browsers.

The PC version of Firefox 4 was released on March 22. During the first day after the release the browser was downloaded 7,1 million times, which is three times more than Internet Explorer 9 downloads. I think the mobile version of Firefox 4 will be just as popular, since Firefox has always been known for its reliability and good performance.

Mobile Firefox 1.0 – Now Officially on Nokia N900 Devices

by nokiamania - on Feb 8th 2010 - No Comments

The developers of Mozilla Company presented the first official version of their Firefox browser for Maemo OS mobile operating system and for Nokia N900 devices. Previously known under the codename “Fennec”, this browser offers the mobile users almost all the same features and possibilities of expanding, as the desktop version.

Awesome Bar Universal Address line, which is implemented in a mobile Firefox, helps to move to the favorite sites by pressing two or three keys. The Weave Sync technology lets you synchronize tabs, history, bookmarks and passwords with the desktop copies of Firefox – your browser with all the settings will now be able to follow you anywhere in the world. One of the most anticipated features is the support of extensions, bringing the current popularity of Firefox desktop– yet, the users can have more than 40 extensions. The developers can create mobile extensions to Firefox using the latest web technologies, including HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, extending functionality.

The function of viewing Web sites considering the location of the user (Location-Aware Browsing) helps to produce maps and other information about the place where you are. Support of the tabs is added with the view of the contents of the tabs as sketches. The Instant Web Site ID integrated service provides additional safety – you can use and edit your personal settings of security for different web sites and web pages. The separate enjoyable moment was the localization of the newly released official browser for more than 30 languages, and this number continues to grow up.

With regard to the extensions for the Firefox browser for Mobile 1.0, we should mention such expansion as TwitterBar for working as a micro blog, AdBlock Plus for blockades of the advertisement and YouTube Enabler for the comfortable work with an extensive video hosting service. These and other extensions to the mobile Firefox can be found in the gallery of mobile extensions. The browser itself can be downloaded from the mobile device. After the release of Firefox for Maemo/N900, it will be soon released on the Android platform, and on several other systems. The bad news is that the edition of the mobile Firefox on the platforms of BlackBerry and IPhone will not be significant in the plans of developers.
