New Ovi Maps for Nokia E71 and Nokia E66

Posted by nokiamania On April - 8 - 2010

In mid-January Nokia announced the transfer of navigation service Ovi Maps on a free basis. However the free walking and satellite navigation became available to owners only of relatively new models – N97, N97 mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 Navigation Edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 Navigator, 6730 classic, X6, N86 8MP.

The fresh press release shows that Nokia has taken into account the desires of  the users and has developed a version of Ovi Maps, compatible with former smartphones E71 and E66. However, not all features of new Ovi Maps have been implemented – there are no Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet premium services.

Ovi Maps for E71 and E66 are already available for downloaded from the Ovi Store.

Nokia Bots – Four Applications for N97 and N97 mini

Posted by nokiamania On March - 30 - 2010

New widgets, called Nokia Bots became available to the owners of the smartphones Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 mini.

The applications have been developed by Nokia Beta Labs and will run on your home screen with the aim of “improving the usability of everyday procedures”.

Until now four Nokia Bots have been created: Alarm Bot (determines at what time usually users wake up and offers alarm settings and night profiles), Profile Bot (automates the change in the profile during business meetings), Shortcut Bot (provides quick access to frequently used applications) and Battery Bot (monitors battery status and “reminds you of the need to connect the charger”).

The company still does not have any information on the possibility of release of Nokia Bots for other mobile devices.

Nokia N97 Mini Crash Test

Posted by nokiamania On March - 25 - 2010

The video of the rather curious test was posted in the Global Network. It depicted at first glance a rather harsh mockery to the phone Nokia N97 Mini – the device was strapped to the bumper of a car in the manner of a tin can. The car was moving at a speed of 70 km / h, and the phone hung on the asphalt. No chance, you will say? And you will be wrong.

The fact is that the tests were not conducted over the actual phone N97 but over the protective film Wrapsol Ultra, which was the case used on the device. The protective film has honorably took the test – except for the dust ,on the case and screen of the slider no traces were left, and the film itself was not affected greatly by proving that it is able to protect any device, even in such adverse conditions.

Nokia C6: Entry Level Touch Slider?

Posted by nokiamania On March - 18 - 2010

It is known that the upcoming phone of the Finnish company is intended for European consumers. It is supposed that the new device is largely to repeat the style and design of N97 mini, but the price will be significantly lower.

Touch screen, horizontal slider form factor, as well as the trackpad – perhaps those components are included in C6. It is claimed that the disclosure mechanism of the case will be somewhat limited and simplistic: if in the N97 and N97 mini, it turns the screen at a comfortable angle for the user, C6 will not perform this function.

They say that the device will only receive 256 MB of built-in flash memory, though a slot for microSD memory cards will increase it.

Nokia C6 is scheduled to enter the mobile market of Europe this summer.

Recently we told you about Nokia N97 Mini in the limited version of Gold Edition. But it turns out that the marketing representatives of the Finnish corporation did not stop on this. And very soon they will present not less rare and expensive version of this smartphone, created in cooperation with the American company Oakley. As a joke this phone is called Noakleyia, but it will be on sale in the mobile market under the strict name Nokia N97 Mini Oakley Edition.

Only 200 such smartphones will be released. Externally, they differ from ordinary phones only by laser engraver on the back of the frame. In addition to this exclusive thematic content of Oakley is included in memory of the N97 Mini – music, screensavers, wallpapers, desktop wallpapers, avatars, videos and so on. The release of the limited series is presupposed by the end of the current Winter Olympic Games, among the official sponsors of which was included Oakley company.
