Pictures Taken with Nokia E6 Pictures Taken with Nokia E6(0)

The Nokia E6 was announced recently, and we didn’t know much about it for a long time. Though some pictures surfaced over the net and the smartphone passed FCC approval, we didn’t know when it would come or what features it would bring. We only knew the phone was a worthy successor of the Nokia E71 and the Nokia E72, it ran the updated version of Symbian^3 operating system called Anna and was equipped with an 8MP camera.

The phone sports a powerful, but yet not a perfect camera, because unlike other Nokia phones it is packed with a full-focus feature. This means all the objects that are further than some 20 inches will stay in focus, and if you try to get a macro image you are doomed to failure because the camera doesn’t capture clearly the objects that are closer than 20 inches.

Below are some pictures taken by the Nokia E6, and they look great. Regardless the above mentioned shortcomings, the camera gives nice pictures that are rich in colors. Moreover, full-focused cameras can please those who like to capture pictures quickly. Look at the pictures and decide yourself whether the camera is a good addition to this handset.

Nokia E71 and 6790 for $245 via Straight Talk Nokia E71 and 6790 for $245 via Straight Talk(1)

Nokia E71 and Nokia 6790 are offered via Straight Talk which is the Walmart’s no contract mobile service. Both the devices will cost $245 each and require $45 per month plan giving to the users unlimited amount of minutes, text and internet access.

Straight Talk being a virtual mobile operator doesn’t have its own network and they are working both in AT&T’s and Verizon’s networks. As the above mentioned handsets use GSM, you can be sure to get a signal wherever AT&T provides coverage.

The company also has an abundant assortiment and many users will be glad with its offers , but not everything is so clear, as 250 dollars probably are much for an older smartphone. If Straight Talk can offer CDMA smartphone, it will be a great deal, but the carriers won’t provide their networks for such services as they will lose subscribers.

Changing fonts on Nokia E71 Changing fonts on Nokia E71(0)

Here is an awesome article how to change fonts of Nokia E71. FontRouler is the app we are going to use for our “experiment”. We’ll try to explain step by step to make it understand as easy as possible. The original article about changing fonts is posted on Nokia E71 fans site by one of its bloggers, so maybe this won’t work, if it happens leave comments and we will response.

For font changing process you must have hacked Nokia E71 Firmware, FountRouter and  .ttf font file.

At first download and install the needed app, then restart your Nokia E71. Consider that the installed app won’t be in any folder except in application manager. Now you have to download any font you like, after this, connect your phone to PC on a Mass Storage mode and open your memory card folder. Go to the memory card and if there is no folder named Fonts, create it. Copy the fonts you have downloaded and paste them into the Fonts folder. Restart your phone, and wow, that works.

I have tried this, and convinced that it works, so follow these steps exactly and I guess, there won’t be any problem.

New Ovi Maps for Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 New Ovi Maps for Nokia E71 and Nokia E66(0)

In mid-January Nokia announced the transfer of navigation service Ovi Maps on a free basis. However the free walking and satellite navigation became available to owners only of relatively new models – N97, N97 mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 Navigation Edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 Navigator, 6730 classic, X6, N86 8MP.

The fresh press release shows that Nokia has taken into account the desires of  the users and has developed a version of Ovi Maps, compatible with former smartphones E71 and E66. However, not all features of new Ovi Maps have been implemented – there are no Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet premium services.

Ovi Maps for E71 and E66 are already available for downloaded from the Ovi Store.

Nokia E72 vs Nokia E71: 7 pros and cons Nokia E72 vs Nokia E71: 7 pros and cons(3)

Models with QWERTY-keyboard, made in a bar form factor stand out among Nokia phones. Nokia E71 is one of the most popular smartphones of the manufacturer. Last year it received a successor in the face of Nokia E72. So let us consider seven pros and cons of E72.

Pros:
1. Camera
One of the most obvious superiority of E72 over the E71 is the camera. The resolution is 5 MP instead of 3.2 MP camera of E71. In addition to quality pictures of the phone is capable of recording more or less good videos (320 x 240 pixels at E71 and 640 x 480 pixels at E72).

2. Internal memory
Usually Nokia E71 has about 110 MB of memory available. Nokia E72, in turn, offers 250 MB of memory. The difference is 140 MB, which is a big plus.

3. Flashlight
It is impossible to overestimate the function of a flashlight – it may be useful both in the dark on the street and at home, when suddenly the electricity is turned off. You can turn of the flashlight of E72 by simply pressing the space key.

4. A 3.5-mm jack, microUSB for charging
Unlike the E71, which has 2.5-mm jack, E72 offers a 3.5-mm audio jack, compatible with most of  the headphones offered by various companies. We are pleased that Nokia said “no” to adapters.
Nokia E72 can be charged via a standard connector, similar to E71, and through the microUSB connector. If there is a PC and an appropriate cable, the phone can be easily charged as well.
The phones have identical batteries – BP-4L (1500 mAh), but the devices operate at different times. The new model has longer talk time.

5. Music search
A lot of users want voicecontrol phone, but the E72 offers a convenient feature. By pressing asterisk (*) on your keyboard from the Home screen and saying the song title or artist, a music player finds the desired track. No need to manually scroll through the whole huge library. Of course, the accuracy depends on the voice and pronunciation, but the effort is worthwhile.

6. Position sensor

The accelerometer of the Nokia E72 can be useful to turn off the alarm, games, or for counting steps and calories with the program Nokia Step Counter.

7. Free Lifetime navigation
With the release of navigation software Ovi Maps 3.03 owners of a number of recent Nokia phones have a lifetime subscription to the automotive and pedestrian navigation. E71 IS not a new model in contrast to E72, so only owners of Nokia E72 can evaluate all the charm of satellite navigation.

Cons
1. Battery compartment

One of the main advantages of the Nokia E71 is the assembly. Nokia E71 in this respect is a reliable device. We can’t say the same thing about E72, because if you drop the device the battery compartment lid is constantly going up. It can open up during everyday usage as well.

2. RAM
Both phones have 128 MB of RAM. However, E72 consumes an average of 25-30 MB more. As a result, E71 can be comfortable to work with 6-7 programs, while the E72 has difficulty digesting 3 – 4 simultaneously running applications.

3. Space Problem
The space key of Nokia E72 stops working from time to time. Restart helps to solve the problem, so the issue is of the software nature and should be treated with a firmware.

4. No podcasts
The new Eseries phones have no Podcasting and Internet Radio. For some owners, these can be important functions to lose.

5. Optical trackpad
Not all the new features are useful and optical trackpad may be one of them. Theoretically, it should be easy, but those who, for many years enjoyed the usual five-way button, can have some problems with addiction. Perhaps it makes sense to use an optical joystick only for the browser.

6. Keymap
Nokia has decided to dilute the lower number of extra keys, reducing the gap. Now it seems that the keyboard is too overloaded with buttons. Inconvenient to switch layouts are also worth noting.

7. Speaker

The speaker of Nokia E72 is not loud enough. It’s location (on the reverse side) does not make sound louder as well.

Nokia E73 to Appear in U.S. in June 2010 Nokia E73 to Appear in U.S. in June 2010(0)

We have already mention the mysterious phone from the Finnish manufacturer with an appropriate name Nokia Mystic several names. It was assumed that this is a new Nokia device of C-series. Also there was a possibility that it is a successor of popular business smartphones Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 – QWERTY-device Nokia E73. But we still do not know what will be the final name of this “mysterious” new smartphone.

Currently, there is information on the web that the smartphone Nokia E73 will appear on the U.S. market in June this year, where it will be sold through the mobile operator T-Mobile. No other details are available yet: neither the exact date of occurrence, nor the likely cost of the new device, nor any of its technical characteristics.

It is not clear if this information will be confirmed in the future. However, if this happens, the emergence of Nokia E73 in the portfolio of T-Mobile USA could attract the attention of many buyers, because for now the operator sells only an entry-level Nokia devices.

Nokia Released Custom Dictionary Nokia Released Custom Dictionary(0)

Judging by the name, the application allows users to edit and add the list of words in their phones for later use in the T9 typing mode. You can also scan text files for words importing from XML-file and transferring them between phones.

Nokia Custom Dictionary is fully operational on the following phone models: Nokia E63, Nokia E71, Nokia 5800 and Nokia X6. Application may have a slight problem on Nokia E72, Nokia E75, Nokia E52, Nokia E55, Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 Mini. On old phones (eg, Nokia N96, Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N79, Nokia N78 and Nokia N82) the application has limited functionality.

Nokia E71 – Best QWERTY-Device Nokia E71 – Best QWERTY-Device(1)

Separately, I would like to mention a small but necessary segment of “smart” units – QWERTY-devices with fully functional keyboard. It is worth noting the appearance of a Nokia E71 model – the long-awaited successor of the two-year old Nokia E61 keyboard hit (and its updated version E61i). The novelty is not so comfortable with the terms of ergonomics (QWERTY-keyboard usability is rather questionable). But everything else has undergone substantial modernization. This includes the hardware capabilities (excellent performance, the increased amount of memory, wireless interfaces, excellent 3.2-megapixel camera autofocus, GPS), and software. After all, we should not forget that Nokia E71 is a Symbian-smartphone, which means that the business functionality of the device can be significantly enhanced through the installation of third party applications.

Nokia E75 Nokia E75(0)

After the success of Nokia E71, the Finnish manufacturer decided to release a new device for employees – Nokia E75 side slider with QWERTY-keyboard. Now all fans of mobile correspondence may deal with more comfort.

If you try to compare Nokia E75 with Nokia E71, it probably will not be a quite right decision. The dev ices are very different – with the case design, keyboard (although even there, there is a QWERTY-layout), the orientation of the display, size, even though they belong to the same series.

Novelty has an acceptable size for this class of devices, Nokia E75 perfectly settled down in the inside pocket of light jackets and particularly was not felt there, though, it weighs 139 grams.

The build quality of Nokia pleases: parts fit perfectly together, no squeaks, not annoying. Metal can be found on the back of the slider at the ends around the display, and cover made from it hides the battery compartment. It is made of corrugated stainless steel, looks good and solid.

At the ends are the volume keys, camera button and voice dialing, microUSB slot and memory card slot. At the upper end there is a standard 3.5-mm jack for headphones. That’s good, because adapter not required.
