Nokia Situation apps

I don’t doubt that all of you watched the ”Terminator” and remember that according to the story the machines started to think themselves, so they did whatever they wanted, and the first thing they had done was a war. But let’s don’t cross forward and see what it looks like on the first stage of its development. I am sure all of you have at least once thought about a phone with an artificial intellect, which could change the profile itself when we go home from office, or could change the ringtone when it is already out of fashion, or read the calendar and switch to silent mode when you are on a meeting. Of course, such an app must work gingerly not to change the needed phone status in undue cases and make a trouble for us.

Now many such deals are done like radios keeping us constantly connected to the Internet, and I guess that time is not far when we can see such technologies as Nokia launched an app called Nokia Situations. It’s a little, experimental app which is developed for users to find out how their phone can behave in different situations. The app works in the background and the device automatically feels the situation you are in and transforms itself according to your preferences.

The Nokia Situation app features:

  • Change Ringtones, make the phone go silent or louder, turn vibrate on/off, and all other profile settings.
  • Answer missed calls with SMS. Especially when you set your phone to silent, you can also make it reply to missed calls, from contacts in your phonebook, with a pre-defined SMS.
  • Save Power. Not using the phone for a while, like when sleeping? Turn Bluetooth on/off or let your phone change to power-saving mode totally.
  • Change UI theme / Wallpaper. Want to make the phone look different in different situations? Change the Theme during free time vs. when you are at work.
  • Open a Web bookmark or application. Want to see weather forecast for the day when you wake up? Look at the calendar as first thing? Or open your favorite TV show discussion page at show time? Or perhaps change the Device Mode when at work? (Nokia Beta Labs)

Those who have already tried out it on their handsets are pleased enough, though there is much work to be done. This app with others like Nokia Feel and Nokia Bots are the pip of the experience in making a personal phone.

Nokia Feel for Symbian

by nokiamania - on Feb 15th 2010 - No Comments

Nokia Beta Labs has developed an application called Nokia Feel. It is only a beta version now. This application is compatible with smartphones based on the Symbian operating system, equipped with touch screen.

Its meaning is that the user can “tell” his mobile friend about his feelings and get appropriate advice. It looks as follows: on the screen is displayed a list of mental states, from which the user can select the most appropriate to his mood: happiness, loneliness, hunger, energy, boredom, creative impulse, and so on.

After the smartphone “learns” what its owner feels, it immediately gives advice. For example, a user in creative mood will be encouraged to write a story, draw a picture or make a contribution to the development of Wikipedia. Thus, the smartphone can become a friendly adviser to the owner and help in difficult moments. You can already download Nokia Feel for free at Nokia Beta Labs.
