Nokia offers N8 instead of White iPhone 4 Nokia offers N8 instead of White iPhone 4(0)

It seems like the global hunger for white iPhones will never be satisfied.

A delay of the white iPhone release was not passed unnoticed by the Apple competitors. So Nokia’s Indian unit has reacted to the news recommending in Twitter: «Why wait for the white iPhone in 2011, when we can now have the Nokia N8 in five stunning colors».

For all those who are tired of waiting for the white iPhone Nokia offers an alternative Nokia N8 smartphone in several color options, that’s blue, silver white, dark grey, burnt orange (some say red), & light green. However I should note that Nokia N8 is still not available in white color.

Recall that Nokia N8 is running Symbian^3 platform, packs a 3.5 inch AMOLED touch-display with the extension of 640 by 360 pixels and internal memory of 16 GB with 256MB RAM.

The phone went on sale in late September so take the chance to add color to your life!

ITC thinks Nokia does not infringe Apple Patent ITC thinks Nokia does not infringe Apple Patent(0)

I guess the whole world is following the news on the continuous patent battles between world’s two leading phone manufacturers Apple and Nokia.

Nokia does not violate Apple patents; such preliminary conclusion was reached by the U.S. International Trade Commission investigators. However the information does not have an official confirmation yet.

Recall that Apple has filed a lawsuit against Nokia, accusing it of violating intellectual property rights.
The complaint contained a demand to ban the import of certain Nokia products to U.S.

Discouraging for Apple the ITC specialists think that some of Apple patents are invalid, however if the judge still confirms the infringement of patents by Nokia, then it should ban the import of some products.

Wall Street Journal source claims that the ITC judge will rule on the case in February 2011.

Keep on reading our blog to know how the scandalous case will be settled!

Nokia N8 New Browser and Improved Homescreen Nokia N8 New Browser and Improved Homescreen(0)

It goes without saying that the web Browser on Symbian ^ 3 was in need of updating, and here it goes the network has a video showing a new version of the browser worked out by the Finnish engineers.
The new browser really has a lot of improved functions. For example, the address bar is moved upwards and printing is now possible on the same screen, with an opened web page coming in the background.

Apart from the address search shortcuts are also improved. The bar at the bottom is replaced by two small virtual buttons, one of which opens your search history.

But one of the best updates are the new multi-touch gestures.

I hope we will be able to experience the new browser updates quite soon!

Where is heading Nokia with the N8 and Symbian^3? Where is heading Nokia with the N8 and Symbian^3?(0)

Though Nokia is the biggest phone manufacturer and its devices are the most sold over the world, but the company yielded its position in mobile market several years ago. Now Nokia and its CEO – Stephen Elop are doing everything to get back to the leading positions. Nokia hopes its newest Nokia N8 flagship will be the phone which can take on it such role, but as the results show the device is going to fail too as its predecessors did. Though the Nokia N8 sports great features and it is undoubtedly a high-end smartphone, but the N8 is still a step back from Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android. Why? you ask! and The Fool tries complete the answer board for us.

The phone comes with 12MP camera capturing HQ photos and recording HD videos, and probably it’s the main feature with HDMI-OUT port promising great future for the handset. But there are many faster and nicer smartphones in the market with 8MP cameras, which is also a great option for cameraphone lovers. If the phone was launched in time and wasn’t delayed due to the numerous software bugs, perhaps the N8 would encourage a better shape.

But let’s not put all the blame on the camera, because the most vulnerable feature of this phone is its OS – Symbian^3. It is really behind of Microsoft’s Windows Phones 7. Though the developers have talked there are many changes in the newest version of their OS, but if we look at it with wide eyes – the Symbian^3 isn’t changed fundamentally. We can only hope that Symbian^3 is stop-gap solution, as Windows Mobile 6.5 was for Windows Phones 7 its time.

The main reason why Symbian is out from competition in smartphone marathon is its UI, and though it has got many good things, but it is not ready for real “battle”.

It seems Nokia wouldn’t have a problem with such amount of sold phones, as it still controls 41% of smartphones market share; according to Canaccord Genuity Nokia, LG, and Samsung combined sell about 400 million phones getting 32% of the mobile industry’s profits, while Apple selling only 17 million units made 39% of the industry’s profit.

Unlikely, but the main reason is the fact Nokia’s phones average price is $85 in comparison with Apple’s devices average price, which is $600. Although the two companies’ smartphones components have the same value- $187, but the N8 is sold for $549 without any contract.

More important components are powered by Broadcom, Texas Instruments and Synaptics – the last provides the touchscreen controller, Texas Instruments has a long history with Nokia and its name doesn’t make us surprise, Broadcom supplies the Nokia N8’s processor.

Though many analysts criticize N8 and its features, but Nokia announces the presale orders have surpassed expectations. This means the history is repeated; the company will have huge sale volume, but low profit, which is a recurrent headache for Nokia shareholders. The only way to this situation is Symbian^4 or Linux-based MeeGo, but if these two will be like Symbian^3, I really want to know what Nokia is going to do.

Gartner: Symbian OS will be the most sold Gartner: Symbian OS will be the most sold(0)

Nokia’s new coming exec Stephen Elop’s task will be to monitor that the company’s Symbian OS won’t lose its market share, which has lead over the next four years. As Gartner has announced, Symbian will be on the first place in OS sale list in 2014.

According to Gartner’s forecasts, Symbian OS will share about 30.2% of the market while the Android’s segment will be 29.6% in 2014. It’s interesting that Windows Phone will share 3.9%, but there is some jealousy about this number considering the WP’s progress during the last years.

Nevertheless, to implement these forecasts there is a lot of work to be done and now we understand what has been the main goal of Elop’s movement from Microsoft to Nokia.

If we pay attention to iOS’s position on the market we’ll see that it may be on the peak with 17.1% market share during the next year. And the RIM’s position will decrease.

So it’s just a forecasting but it can become the main purpose of Elop’s activity.

Nokia N8 and E7 will be realeased later this month Nokia N8 and E7 will be realeased later this month(1)

It’s already known that Nokia’s new smartphone will be launched on September 30, but those who have ordered Nokia N8 directly from Nokia could buy it starting September 28.

Nokia N8 will be exclusive at Nokia Online for a week before it goes on general sale. In Finland you’ll have to pay 499€ to get this phone.

Nokia N8 is the first smartphone to run Symbian 3. The handset is equipped with a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and a large sensor – features, which make Nokia N8 more competitive than the iPhone and most Android devices.

In addition, Nokia N8 offers the opportunity to make HD videos and edit them with an intuitive built-in editing suite.  Doubling as a portable entertainment center, people can enjoy HD-quality video with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound by plugging into their home theatre system.

After the digital camera social networking is the second remarkable feature of  Nokia N8. Users can view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen. The Nokia N8 comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation, guiding people to places and points of interest in more than 70 countries worldwide.

The cell phone giant has been slow to introduce high-end smartphones that appeal to users, particularly those in the U.S. market. This is the general reason why people choose iPhone and Android devices in the U.S. and, that’s why I think, the new Symbian smartphone will be welcomed  by American users.

Nokia N8 is Nokia’s first phone to be equipped with Qt, a software development environment that simplifies the development and makes it possible to build applications once and deploy across Symbian and other software platforms.

As Reuters  reported, Nokia will release another smartphone E7 at Nokia World in London on Sept. 14. This device comes with a large touch screen and full keyboard.

Nokia E7 also runs Symbian 3 and is equipped with a  4 inch screen with 640×360 pixels resolution. The device has an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash on its backside. The price of Nokia E7 is still unknown.

According to Nokia’s official blog last year it was the Nokia N900, X6, N97mini and Nokia Booklet on the hardware side and Nokia Money, the Ovi SDK and navigation API on the software side, that bring success to Nokia. I think these two smartphones will bring more success to the manufacturer.

Expect more news from Nokia, as the Nokia Developer Summit 2010 will be held at the same time as Nokia World in London.
