New Version of MeeGo UI

by L.K. - on Aug 2nd 2010 - No Comments

The newest operating system of Nokia is almost finished.

We  already got the test version of MeeGo, but it is well known that very often pre-released versions of operating systems look quite differently than the complete ones. And, it seems, this can be applied to MeeGo OS with 100 per cent: in a recent video on YouTube which is demonstrating one of the latest builds, we see a completely different graphical interface than of the previous version.

In a brief presentation we see the demonstration of such features as the Contacts menu, widgets, Ovi Store with all of its applications, the main menu and  MP3-track store. Everything looks  very stylish, but, just as in the case of Symbian ^ 4, it is somewhat reminiscent the UI of  Android, which is reasonable.

Symbian ^4 Screenshots

Here we come. The first “real” screenshots of the Symbian ^ 4 operating system are already over the web. In contrast to the conceptual images which appeared earlier, these pictures show the real work of the Symbian ^ 4 on the device.

The interface looks extremely unusual for Symbian from the outside, perhaps, a Symbian ^ 4 and the current generation of the operating system does not have anything in common with each other. Personally, I think that Symbian ^ 4 OS is mostly similar with Android OS: the top panel looks almost the same, especially in terms of colors.

It is known that the first device with Symbian ^ 4 will appear in 2011. Prior to that Nokia plans to release its current project in the form of the Symbian ^ 3.

Nokia Demonstrated Symbian 4 Interface

Although the Symbian operating system 3 is still not released, Nokia has already started working on the creation of its successor – Symbian 4. Based on Qt framework, Symbian 4 should simplify the user interface of the Symbian S60 operating system. In particular it will be free to post screen widgets, context menu for a list of objects, four libraries of custom images (Contacts, Applications, Music, Photo), improved switch between tasks, redesigned Control Panel, etc.

It should be noted that many of the processing run counter to traditional solutions of Symbian S60 operating system, which is caused by the desire to adopt the best practices of competitors (iPhone OS, webOS). At the same time, some unique features remain. So Symbian ^ 4 would be “unique page”, although the user will see an interface similar to the screen applied in the Android OS.
Functional readiness of OS Symbian ^ 4 is expected in late 2010, but the first device with this system will not appear before 2011. Such an early demonstration of the conceptual scheme of the interface is dictated by the desire to know the opinion of both end users and application developers to demonstrate the direction of Symbian.
