Those Nokia users who have devices based on Symbian S60 platform must be satisfied with the fact of the release of  Opera Mobile 10.1 beta version. The item brings up the most favorite things which were available for the earlier versions, such as visual tabbed browsing, homescreen having webpage thumbnails.

The list of the newest features include:

  • Faster page download speed- just like in case of computers
  • Geo-location support- GPS pops up with popular location-aware sites such as Goolge and Bing Maps
  • Virtual touchscreen keyboard- this is rather useful when working with the URLs…
  • Accelerometer support… for getting to landscape mode and back…
  • Kinetic scrolling
  • Turbo mode

You just need to go to the official Opera site and get the update there.

Nokia Demonstrated Symbian 4 Interface

by nokiamania - on Jan 22nd 2010 - No Comments

Although the Symbian operating system 3 is still not released, Nokia has already started working on the creation of its successor – Symbian 4. Based on Qt framework, Symbian 4 should simplify the user interface of the Symbian S60 operating system. In particular it will be free to post screen widgets, context menu for a list of objects, four libraries of custom images (Contacts, Applications, Music, Photo), improved switch between tasks, redesigned Control Panel, etc.

It should be noted that many of the processing run counter to traditional solutions of Symbian S60 operating system, which is caused by the desire to adopt the best practices of competitors (iPhone OS, webOS). At the same time, some unique features remain. So Symbian ^ 4 would be “unique page”, although the user will see an interface similar to the screen applied in the Android OS.
Functional readiness of OS Symbian ^ 4 is expected in late 2010, but the first device with this system will not appear before 2011. Such an early demonstration of the conceptual scheme of the interface is dictated by the desire to know the opinion of both end users and application developers to demonstrate the direction of Symbian.
