Nokia Seeking Buyers to Sell off Vertu

by Argam - on Dec 8th 2011 - No Comments

Unlike Nokia’s other handsets, we don’t often hear about Vertu. Obviously, it’s easier to design, produce and promote thousands of simple devices than one costing $16,000. All in all, Nokia’s Vertu devices are made for the rich and the famous, who like to indulge themselves. But looks like Nokia won’t “help” them any more.

According to Financial Times, the Finnish phone manufacturer is at the initial stage of selling off the luxury subsidiary. This can be conditioned by the situation Nokia is currently in. Of course, I am not among those who do not believe in Nokia, but we must accept Nokia is working hard to get back the popularity it once had. So releasing itself from Vertu will help Nokia pay more attention to the US market and other targeted areas, which make up its main revenue.

We still don’t know which the Vertu “target area” will be, but be sure the number of people wishing to have it won’t be little, as Vertu has won its title during years. Moreover, I know there are many people loving Vertu and dreaming about a handset made by it, but they don’t even know this brand belongs to Nokia. So by and large there must be no difference on who owns Vertu — it’s more important to continue to do what they have been doing.

Luxury Vertu to Run Windows Phone?

by Ani - on Aug 20th 2011 - No Comments

I guess there aren’t many people in the world who haven’t heard about Vertu. It’s the subsidiary brand of Nokia that manufactures luxury phones made using materials like gold, sapphire, rubies and fine leather. Almost everyone wants to have a Vertu phone, even though all these luxury devices run Symbian and can’t boast any high-end features. Maybe everyone wants and loves Vertu devices because of their price — the cheapest Vertu phone costs about $5,770, and we people love luxury things :)

Anyway, there are rumors that at least one of the features of Vertu phones will be improved – the new models will run Windows Phone instead of Symbian OS.

According to @UVStaska’s tweet, it seems like Vertu will really start using Microsoft’s WP OS, since Nokia won’t continue working with Symbian for a long time, and most likely its new cooperation with Microsoft will spread over Vertu, too.

I can’t imagine a WP-based Vertu yet, since their phones have never had touchscreen displays… But anyway, I think using WP in Vertu devices is a good idea. At least people who pay thousands of dollars for a luxury phone can look to a decent operating system instead of Symbian…

Nokia Working On New Vertu Device

by Argam - on Apr 28th 2011 - No Comments

After the CEO changed, Nokia went through some other major changes. Firstly, the manufacturer decided to move Symbian off. This caused a lot of discomfort, since lots of apps and features of the gadgets were strongly tied with it. Then Nokia decided to start a new season with Windows Phone 7 instead of the world popular Android, though Microsoft’s product wasn’t that popular.

Some claim that as result of all these not really positive changes Nokia has to fire around 4000 employees. Those employees were mainly working in Denmark, the UK and Finland. They will have to find new jobs sometime before 2012. Another 3000 employees will be moved to the Accenture.

But anyway, we have still heard news about the development of a new Vertu gadget (Vertu is the subsidiary of Nokia). This time the device is rumored to be made with carbon fiber. The device will come up with Symbian OS in two different versions. The first version will be made with polished stainless, while the second one will be made with 18 K Gold. The devices are also rumored to support Vertu Lifestyle Service. This is the most desired feature for the Vertu gadgets.

The price of both versions will be rather high just like in the case of all Vertu devices.
