Nokia C2-00 Dual-SIM Handset

by Argam - on May 25th 2011 - No Comments

Parallel to its main strategy, which is aimed at pulling out Nokia from the current difficult situation, the company continues to manufacture feature phones. Often such handsets are out of people’s attention, but they are actually very good, too. One of such devices was introduced a couple of days ago – the Nokia X1-01, now it’s the Nokia C2-00’s show time.

The Nokia C2-00 is a dual-SIM handset with a number of useful features. Among them I can mention the S40 UI, the VGA camera, the built-in web-browser and Nokia Messaging. There isn’t much to tell about such phones, so I guess I should just mention its price, which is very attractive — only €45 (about $63).

According to the initial information, the Nokia C2-00 will be launched this quarter in several markets, including the African and Asian countries where Nokia is doing what its slogan says – connecting people. I guess no one thinks this handset will be shipped to Europe and the U.S., as people in there are waiting for another products of Nokia — the WP7-powered handsets.

Nokia N9 Teaser Video

by Argam - on May 17th 2011 - No Comments

The Nokia N9 was recently spotted at FCC. A teaser video demonstrating the smartphone has also appeared, and this makes us think that the device will finally be released soon. The release date cannot be guessed yet, but I think it will be around June.

The most interesting thing that different sources prescribe different feature packages to the device. There are various display options for the Nokia N9, ranging from the typical 3.8 up to 4.3. The processor options include Intel (which is more typical for Nokia) and Qualcomm. The largest choice is given to the camera — here we have a range starting with 5 megapixel and going up to 12 megapixel. And finally, there are disagreements about the operating system of the devices. The fact that Nokia started its cooperation with Microsoft makes us think the device will run WP7, but some people say that the device was ready before this cooperation, so it will be equipped with Symbian OS. But even Symbian might appear in two versions — Anna and MeeGo.

The video lasts only 52 seconds, but there’s a lot of info in it. I think that the most impressive part is the end of the video, which states  ”Our Next Sense: Nokia N Series.”

Nokia Working On New Vertu Device

by Argam - on Apr 28th 2011 - No Comments

After the CEO changed, Nokia went through some other major changes. Firstly, the manufacturer decided to move Symbian off. This caused a lot of discomfort, since lots of apps and features of the gadgets were strongly tied with it. Then Nokia decided to start a new season with Windows Phone 7 instead of the world popular Android, though Microsoft’s product wasn’t that popular.

Some claim that as result of all these not really positive changes Nokia has to fire around 4000 employees. Those employees were mainly working in Denmark, the UK and Finland. They will have to find new jobs sometime before 2012. Another 3000 employees will be moved to the Accenture.

But anyway, we have still heard news about the development of a new Vertu gadget (Vertu is the subsidiary of Nokia). This time the device is rumored to be made with carbon fiber. The device will come up with Symbian OS in two different versions. The first version will be made with polished stainless, while the second one will be made with 18 K Gold. The devices are also rumored to support Vertu Lifestyle Service. This is the most desired feature for the Vertu gadgets.

The price of both versions will be rather high just like in the case of all Vertu devices.

Nokia Will Continue Working With Intel

by Argam - on Feb 17th 2011 - No Comments

We got the news about the cooperation of Nokia and Microsoft withing the frames of using WP7 for their gadgets of the future. The main question that comes across is the idea of having MeeGo. What about the operating system that was created in conjunction of Nokia and Intel? Will it be denied by the manufacturer?

Well, at least Intel CEO Paul Otellini is not of that idea. He is rather optimistic about the overall situation. During the interview conducted during Mobile World Congress 2011 he stated : ”I don’t see that Nokia changing its strategy changes the industry strategy,” and then added that the carriers will be always looking for the n “open, operator-friendly” OS.

MeeGo is planned to land not only to the tablets, which will appear in 2011, but also to the multiple series of the gadgets developed by Nokia. Another cooperation result- the devices for the cars are also going to be equipped with this exact OS.

So far the team of MeeGo is continuing working on development of more user-friendly features.

But Intel is not that happy with the idea of Nokia, making their OS a secondary choice, while giving the preference to Microsoft product WP7.

“We remain committed and welcome Nokia’s continued contribution to MeeGo open source… Our strategy has always been to provide choice when it comes to operating systems, a strategy that includes Windows, Android, and MeeGo. This is not changing.”

Well, Nokia it’s your choice… but you should be careful about offending one of the main technological companies.

Stephen Elop is not a MIcrosoft mole

by Argam - on Feb 14th 2011 - No Comments

Nokia and Microsoft are working together and this is not secret anymore, but nobody could expect the results of this cooperation would be seen so soon. Nokia Smart Devices lead Jo Harlow at her company’s press conference at Mobile World Congress confirmed the Nokia Windows Phone 7 prototype is real. Though he didn’t note any details of it but showed the large touchscreen twice. It was also hinted the phone can be available this year which would make Stephen Elop much happier.

During the event Elop was asked whether he had been a “Trojan horse” sent to a rival company to artificially inflate its market share. Elop answered it couldn’t be real, as the board of directors had taken part in making decision.

According to Elop’s word, Nokia doesn’t want to be the exclusive maker of WP7 phones as competition will help them to return their lost position in the “ecosystem”. The company deliberately chose WP7 to make it the third competitor platform in the smartphone market after Android and iOS.

Finally, we all have gotten the answers to our questions, and I don’t think there are many people disappointed from this deal as Nokia has been sinking and WP7 is its lifebuoy. Though there is much time to make such conclusions, but I am almost sure Nokia and Microsoft will benefit from this situation.

Could WP7 rout Nokia from marsh?

by Sona - on Sep 26th 2010 - No Comments

Choosing Stephen Elop’s as Nokia’s new CEO is fueling on further strategy regarding Symbian. According to these rumors, Elop is going to give an important place to Windows Phone 7, but some “trusted sources” note the WP7 will be just an alternative way for Nokia. As Nokia’s ex CEO Anssi Vanjoki said they don’t rue beating on Symbian OS, that’s true Symbian was rather clumsy and could not compete with Android and iOS, and Symbian^4 was Vanjoki’s vision for the future. Nokia thinks WP7 can be the third major platform behind Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

Since Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, Nokia’s share price has fallen by almost two-thirds, which affected in decreasing of the company value by about $65 billion. Now Elop gonna change Nokia’s strategy to return the sometime position of the company, and the main key is new OS based phones. Though Nokia is already going to ship 50 million new Symbian^3 devices, but everyone understands this OS can’t compete with others. This is the main reason, Elop want to try WP7 for Nokia’s phones.

If WP7 won’t be able to realize Elop’s goals, Nokia has its second-plan OS – MeeGo. We’llwhich of these three platforms will become the main app for Nokia’s devices.

Office Mobile For Future Nokia WP7 Devices

by L.K. - on Jun 30th 2010 - No Comments

It feels like Micorosoft is working over the project to bring Office Mobile to Nokia and other leading companies. This means getting serious over the mobile suite of the Microsoft Office. And fortunately the company was able to find a proper specialist to fill in the vacancy announced on the official site.

As it’s known this new feature will be fulfilling the specs of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 despite the fact that some version of it is already available for WinMo 6.5. But the modernized version of the Office suite is planned to be able to do whatever does the Microsoft Office for the typical PCs.

While the announcement of the vacancy has only Nokia announced and then come the “other leading companies”, it is most likely to include iOs, RIM and Android.
